Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also note that staff helpfulness and opening hours receive strong satisfaction, and that journals and Wi-Fi attract more dissatisfaction. However, the overview is incomplete and some claims are inaccurate: users are not “completely satisfied” with opening hours or staff, since 35% are only fairly satisfied with opening hours and 5% are fairly satisfied with staff. The response also omits useful comparisons, such as books receiving 50% very satisfied and 10% not satisfied, and journals having the highest dissatisfaction at 20%. Develop the key patterns more precisely and cover both visuals in a balanced way. (The response includes 11 words copied from the task prompt.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has separate paragraphs for an introduction, an overview, and details, so there is some organisation and the reader can identify which chart or table is being discussed. However, progression is weak: the final paragraph repeats the point about staff satisfaction and books and journals without adding a clear comparison, while the pie-chart details are split across two paragraphs. Linking is also sometimes awkward, as in “Both pie chart and table demonstrating,” and “whereas” does not clearly connect the groups in the final pie-chart discussion. Group the overview and supporting details more purposefully, avoid repeating the same findings, and use clear links to show contrasts between satisfaction categories.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “satisfaction levels,” “availability,” and “reliability,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “demonstrates,” “consumers,” and “satisfied,” and several choices are unnatural or imprecise. Library users do not “consume” a library, and “consumers” is less suitable than “users” or “respondents” in this context. Phrases such as “consuming library by only 16 percent” and “certain inconvenience” make the meaning less precise. Use a wider set of accurate reporting verbs and terms for survey results, and distinguish clearly between being very satisfied, fairly satisfied, and not satisfied.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few complex structures, such as “whereas” and “which,” but sentence patterns are mostly simple and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “The pie chart and the table demonstrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the largest proportion … are” also mismatches a singular subject and verb. “Both pie chart and table demonstrating” is a fragment, and “their are” confuses “there” and “their.” Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “opening hours of library.” Practise building accurate sentences around the data, checking agreement and complete verb phrases, and use punctuation to separate complete ideas. Greater control of these basics would make the information easier to follow.
