Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table and pie chart illustrate the outcome of a library survey done at a university.

Overall, the pie chart is representing types of library users while the analysis of library user satisfaction is presented in a table.

To begin with, the categories of people using library as a useful resource. Full-time undergraduates are the people using university library making up to 44% of the users. Futhermore, postgraduate students; full-time and part-time are also important contributors with 25% and 16% respectively. Moreover, only 7% academic staff take help from books avaliable in the library.

Next come, the satisfaction level of people who take help from resourses, present in the library. Mostly, people are contented with the services of the library with few issues such as reliability of wi-fi, around 19% people are not satisfied by it. Surprisingly, 95% of users are very satisfied by the staff of library and only 5% people find them fairly satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, followed by full-time and part-time postgraduates at 25% and 16%. You also report the striking 95% satisfaction with staff and note dissatisfaction with Wi-Fi. However, the overview mainly describes what each visual presents rather than summarising the key findings. The distance-learning figure (8%) is omitted, and the satisfaction discussion leaves out important comparisons, such as opening hours (65% very satisfied) and the lower ratings for journals (20% not satisfied). The claim that “mostly” users are content is broad and is not supported with a clear comparison across the services. Select and compare the most notable figures more fully to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a brief overview, and separate paragraphs for user categories and satisfaction. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Next” help readers follow the shift between the visuals, and the information is generally easy to locate. This coherent structure is a strength. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the opening overview repeats the visual descriptions instead of guiding the reader towards the main comparisons. The phrase “Next come” is also an awkward link into the satisfaction section, while the final paragraph moves quickly from a general claim to Wi-Fi and staff without covering other ratings. Use more purposeful links and organise the satisfaction details around clear comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “categories,” “contributors,” “satisfaction level,” and “reliability,” so the topic is clear. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing survey data. “Take help from books available in the library” does not accurately describe the user category, and “contented with the services” is less suitable than language such as “satisfied with the facilities.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Futhermore,” “avaliable,” and “resourses.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and control. Aim for precise reporting verbs and collocations, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a relative clause in “people who take help from resourses” and a longer sentence comparing postgraduate groups. Most ideas remain understandable, but some sentence structures are incomplete or awkward. “To begin with, the categories of people using library as a useful resource” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “Next come, the satisfaction level” has an incorrect construction and punctuation. Articles and prepositions are also sometimes missing, as in “using library” and “staff of library.” These issues show that complex phrasing is not yet consistently controlled. Build complete sentences first, then check articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
