Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart shows the proportion of different categories of users of the library. While the table gives information on the satisfaction level of these users.

Overall, the full-time undergraduate and full-time postgraduate students occupy the top users proportion, while academic staff and distance learners have the least usage percentage. Moreover, the number of satisfied users with all the dfferent factors of the library are more then the non-statified portion.

The full-time undergraduates are among the highest users of the library with 44% of the total proportion, followed by full-time postgraduates with 25%. The part-time postgraduates have a fairly average proportion of only 16%. On the ther hand, the academic staff and distance learners accounts for only 7% and 8% which ranks as the lowest usage category of the library.

On the other hand, different factors are used to guage the satisfaction level of the users. These factors include the library's opening hours, staff helpfulness, availability of books and journals to the reliability of the wifi. Most of the users show high levels of satisfaction for certain factors like the opening hours with 65% being highly satisfied while 35% showing an average satisfaction level, similar to the helpfulness of the staff factor. However, 10% to 20% of users show dissatisfaction with the availability of books and journal and the reliability of wifi.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both visuals and give a relevant overview: undergraduates form the largest user group, while academic staff and distance learners are the smallest, and satisfaction is generally positive. The figures for user categories are accurate, and you report the opening-hours and staff-helpfulness results correctly. This meets the task well, with some features selected and compared. However, the overview’s claim that satisfaction is higher for all factors is too broad: for journals and Wi-Fi, the satisfied proportions are not overwhelmingly higher than dissatisfaction. The table discussion also omits useful comparisons, such as staff helpfulness having the highest very-satisfied result and journals the highest dissatisfaction. More precise coverage of these contrasts would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a paragraph on satisfaction. This makes the two visuals easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “followed by” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships. The progression is generally logical, though some connections are mechanical or imprecise. For example, “On the other hand” introduces the satisfaction table without a clear contrast, and “similar to the helpfulness of the staff factor” does not clearly explain the comparison between the two results. The final paragraph lists several factors but gives limited detail on their relative results. Use more precise links and organise the table discussion around the strongest and weakest satisfaction findings.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “satisfaction level,” “availability” and “dissatisfaction,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “occupy the top users proportion,” but this collocation is unnatural; “account for the largest share of users” would be more idiomatic. Other choices, including “average satisfaction level” for “fairly satisfied” and “usage percentage,” are understandable but not precise. Spelling errors such as “dfferent,” “statified,” “ther” and “guage” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart-reporting expressions and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the information remains understandable. The opening sentence beginning “While the table gives…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, so it needs to be joined to the preceding sentence or rewritten as a complete one. There are also some agreement and sentence-pattern errors: “the academic staff and distance learners accounts” should use “account,” and “the number of satisfied users … are” has a singular subject (“number”) requiring “is.” In “10% to 20% of users show dissatisfaction with the availability of books and journal and the reliability of wifi,” the structure is awkward and the plural “journals” is needed. Review sentence completeness, subject–verb agreement and parallel phrasing to improve control.
