Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided chart and table illustrate the outcome of a survey of library members at a university.
Overall, it is clear that the graph demonstrates the categories of library visitors, while table represents the satisfaction of library members. Full-time undergraduates accounts for the highest percentage, while academic staff led to the lowest proportion. Staff helpfulness accounts for the highest percentage in satisfaction of library users whereas, journals availability and wi-fi reliability accounts for the lowest satisfaction.
Furthermore, 8% of distance learning (all courses), while part-time postgraduate accounts for 16% whereas, full-time postgraduate led to 25% of library members.
In addition, 65% of library users were very satisfied and 35% were fairly satisfied with library opening hours. Books availability accounts for 50% very satisfied visitors and 40 fairly satisfied, while 10 members are not satisfied. Wi-fi reliability accounts for 48% of very satisfied members and 33% were fairly satisfied whereas, 19% of not satisfied users.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates make up the largest share (44%), while academic staff are the smallest (7%). You also report several satisfaction figures correctly, including opening hours and wi-fi. The overview usefully highlights staff helpfulness as the strongest result, but the claim that journals and wi-fi had the lowest satisfaction is imprecise: journals had the lowest very-satisfied figure (45%) and the highest not-satisfied figure (20%), whereas wi-fi had 48% very satisfied and 19% not satisfied. Helpfulness is also clearly high at 95% very satisfied. The response omits the staff and journal figures and gives limited comparison across the table. Select the clearest contrasts and distinguish satisfaction categories accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs covering user categories and satisfaction results. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. However, progression is uneven because the user-category details are separated from the overview by a transition that does not clearly group or compare them, and the satisfaction paragraph reports only some rows. Linking words such as “whereas” and “Furthermore” are used, but several are awkwardly placed or repeated, making connections feel mechanical. For example, “Furthermore, 8% … while … whereas” combines multiple contrast markers in one sentence. Group the figures into clear comparisons—such as the highest and lowest user categories, then the strongest and weakest satisfaction results—and use simpler, more precise links.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “satisfaction,” “reliability,” and “availability,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary wording, such as “library members,” “visitors,” and “users.” However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing survey data. “Staff helpfulness accounts for the highest percentage in satisfaction” is less direct than saying it received the highest satisfaction rating, and “journals availability” is an awkward word order. “10 members are not satisfied” also changes a percentage into a number of people. Use standard chart language consistently and preserve the distinction between percentages and respondents.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, and most of the information remains understandable. Some grammatical errors, however, recur in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. In “Full-time undergraduates accounts,” the plural subject requires “account”; “while table represents” needs an article; and “part-time postgraduate accounts” is missing a plural noun or a suitable singular construction. The sentence beginning “Furthermore, 8% of distance learning” is incomplete because it lacks a clear subject and verb for the first figure. Punctuation around “whereas” is also inconsistent. These issues do not generally prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Check subject–verb agreement and make sure each comparison forms a complete sentence.
