Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response covers both visuals and gives a clear overview of the main contrasts: full-time undergraduates are the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction ratings while journals attract the most dissatisfaction. Most figures are reported accurately, including the user-group proportions and the 95% very-satisfied rating for staff helpfulness. The comparisons across opening hours, books, journals and Wi-Fi also support the summary. To make the account more complete and precise, report the remaining satisfaction figures more systematically—for example, the 45% very satisfied and 35% fairly satisfied for journals—and avoid describing 16% as “very low” without qualification. Overall, the key features are selected and supported, with only some imprecision in how comparisons are expressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the user categories and satisfaction results. This makes the two visuals easy to distinguish, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help guide the reader. However, the linking phrases are somewhat repetitive, particularly repeated uses of “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “regarding.” Some sentences also group several figures together without a particularly smooth comparison, such as the sentence listing books and journals. Use a wider range of concise transitions and organise the satisfaction details into clearer comparisons—for instance, grouping the two strongest results before discussing the less positive ratings. The structure is logical, though cohesion is not always flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “respondents,” “satisfaction level,” and “not satisfied,” and it attempts to describe contrasts with phrases such as “second highest” and “strong positive response.” However, lexical control is limited by frequent spelling errors and awkward or inaccurate collocations. Examples include “lbrary,” “acadmic,” “helpfuness,” and “availibilty,” as well as “the table chart demonstrates the among satisfaction level” and “very satisfaction level.” These errors make the writing less fluent and can slow the reader, even though the intended meaning is usually recoverable. Build a reliable set of chart-description phrases and check spelling carefully; use natural forms such as “the table shows satisfaction with library services” and “the proportion of users who were very satisfied.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
There is an attempt to use a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “which,” and the overall meaning can generally be followed. However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors occur across many sentences. For example, “the full time undergraduates account the major proportion” lacks the appropriate verb pattern and article, while “the table chart demonstrates the among satisfaction level” has an unclear grammatical structure. Other issues include missing articles or prepositions in “accounted largest proportion,” and inconsistent sentence construction in “the distance learning and academic staff showed least proportion.” Aim first for accurate, complete sentence patterns, then add complexity. Check articles, verb forms, and the grammatical links between clauses when revising.
