Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user groups and correctly report most of their proportions, including the largest group (full-time undergraduates, 44%) and the smallest (academic staff, 7%). You also attempt to compare satisfaction across several services. However, the overview is not fully accurate: opening hours are not the most positively rated feature, as staff helpfulness has the highest very-satisfied figure at 95%. The claim that journals had the lowest satisfaction is also too broad; journals have the highest dissatisfaction (20%), while staff helpfulness and opening hours both have 0% not satisfied. In addition, opening-hours satisfaction is given as 30% fairly satisfied rather than 35%, and the wi-fi figures are left unfinished. Select and report the key contrasts more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate discussion of the chart and table. This helps the reader distinguish the two sets of information. However, progression within the body is weakened by repetitive and sometimes unsuitable linking phrases such as “First and foremost,” “As well as,” “Moreover” and “At least but not last.” The final sentence breaks off at “At the of ralibilitry of wi-fi,” leaving the table summary incomplete. Some sentences also combine several figures without clear punctuation, making comparisons harder to follow. Grouping the satisfaction results by positive ratings and dissatisfaction, and using simpler transitions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile,” would create a clearer progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “categories,” “percentage,” “very satisfied” and “availability,” and you attempt alternatives such as “illustrate” and “elucidate.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “the highest percentage of library user satisfaction was library opening hours” does not clearly express the comparison, while “At least but not last” is not an appropriate phrase. Spelling errors such as “illutrate,” “availibity,” “jounals” and “ralibilitry” are noticeable and can make the final section difficult to understand. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully; repeating the category labels accurately is more effective than using an unsuitable synonym.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to form longer sentences and use contrast, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors often make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “the highest categories of library users full-time undergraduate” lacks a linking verb and a clear noun phrase; “the categories of library users was 44%” has subject–verb disagreement and an awkward structure. Articles, punctuation and spacing are also unreliable, as in “at university .” and “However ,”. The table sentences frequently omit verbs or connectors, and the final clause is incomplete. Practise complete comparative structures, such as “Full-time undergraduates accounted for 44%, compared with 25% for full-time postgraduates,” and proofread sentence boundaries and agreement.
