Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two visuals and report several relevant figures, including the 44% share of full-time undergraduates, the 7% share of academic staff, and the 95% very satisfied with staff helpfulness. However, the response covers the task only partially: it gives no account of the other user groups or most satisfaction categories, and the overview is limited rather than summarising the main patterns across both visuals. The claim that 44% is “around half” is a reasonable approximation, but the satisfaction points are presented without comparison or context. The response is also 85 words, below the required 150, leaving too little space to select and explain the key features. To improve, include a fuller overview and compare the highest and lowest results across the table.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart and table, gives an overall statement, and then mentions selected figures. This provides some organisation, and the reader can generally follow the points. However, the whole answer is compressed into two paragraphs, with the overview and supporting details not clearly separated or developed. The final sentences move from staff helpfulness to journal dissatisfaction and then book satisfaction without a clear organising principle. Linking is also limited, and the repeated use of “and” does not show how the figures relate. Group the user-category findings together, then organise satisfaction results by high and low ratings, using clear comparisons to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “categories,” “percentage,” “full time undergraduate,” and “not satisfied,” so the topic is usually clear. There are also attempts to describe proportions, such as “around half.” However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable: “satisfication,” “stisfied,” and “availibility.” Some phrases are awkward or imprecise, particularly “makes around half of library user categories” and “makes 95% of satisfication on very satisfied.” Use standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “share,” and “rated … very satisfactory,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you describe the table’s different satisfaction levels without repeating “users” and “satisfied.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both a compound sentence and an overview structure, and the main figures can generally be understood. However, sentence forms are limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships awkward. For example, “with 44% of full time undergraduate makes around half” lacks a clear grammatical subject and uses an incorrect verb pattern; “academic staff with 7% are the smallest library users” also has an unclear construction. Articles and number forms are inconsistent in “the categories of library user” and “library user categories,” while the opening sentence lacks a clear verb structure. Practise writing complete sentences with a subject and verb, for example, “Full-time undergraduates made up 44% of users.” Then vary these with accurate comparison clauses.
