Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two visuals and report several accurate figures for user categories, including 44% for full-time undergraduates and 7% for academic staff. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the satisfaction table is introduced but not described, so its main comparisons—such as 95% being very satisfied with staff helpfulness and 20% being dissatisfied with journal availability—are missing. The overview is also incomplete and contains an unclear phrase about the least-satisfied category. In addition, the response is 12 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to summarise both visuals. To improve, give a clear overview of the strongest and weakest satisfaction results, then select key figures from both visuals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then discussing user categories, and phrases such as “Overall” and “on the other hand” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview repeats information from the following paragraph, and the final paragraph stops after “the table domenstrate the” without presenting any data. The opening overview also joins several ideas with punctuation that makes the relationships unclear. Use a clear sequence: introduction, overview of both visuals, then one paragraph for user categories and one for satisfaction. Complete each paragraph and use linking expressions only where they clarify a genuine comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some task-relevant vocabulary, including “categories,” “participation,” “satisfaction,” and “percentage,” and use comparison language such as “ranked at the second level.” However, spelling errors are frequent, including “catagories,” “satisified,” “helpfullness,” and “libary,” which reduce clarity. Several expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “table chart,” “stood at high position,” and “in half ratio” do not describe the data naturally. Use standard chart language and accurate collocations, for example, “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “half the share.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms for satisfaction levels would make the limited vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts longer sentences with contrast clauses, for example, the sentence beginning “Furthermore, part time postgraduates…” and the comparison introduced by “whereas.” However, control is weak: sentence boundaries and punctuation are inconsistent, and the opening overview contains a fragment beginning “and people are most…” followed by an incomplete phrase. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms, such as “the distance learning students is” and “the academic staff who uses.” Missing or misplaced commas, including in “Overall, full time,” further affect readability. Aim first for complete, clearly punctuated sentences, and check subject–verb agreement and article use before adding more complex clauses.
