Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the largest user group (full-time undergraduates, 44%) and compare the two postgraduate groups, and you report the book and journal satisfaction figures accurately. However, the response covers the task only partially: it omits the distance-learning figure and most of the table, including the strong results for staff helpfulness and opening hours and the comparatively weaker wi-fi ratings. The overview is also limited; it mentions satisfaction with two aspects but does not summarise the main pattern across the table. In addition, the response is 148 words, below the required 150. Add a concise overview and select key comparisons from both visuals to develop the summary more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, gives a brief overall statement, and then discusses user categories and satisfaction data. This makes the information generally understandable. However, progression is limited because the overview is mixed with individual figures, and the table discussion stops after books and journals rather than presenting a complete, clearly grouped comparison. Linking is also repetitive, particularly through repeated openings such as “In pie chart” and “In table,” while references such as “the other 20 percent” are less precise than naming the satisfaction category. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the two visuals, and connect comparisons with clearer phrases such as “by contrast” or “whereas.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “satisfaction,” “opening hours,” and “availability,” so the main subject is usually clear. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “stisfaction” and “availibility” are misspelled, while “users of library” and “satisfied from” are unnatural collocations. Repeated use of “users” and “percent” also makes the description less varied. Aim for precise reporting language, such as “accounted for,” “rated,” and “were dissatisfied,” and check spelling carefully. More accurate collocations and a wider range of comparison vocabulary would make the summary clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response mainly uses simple statements and attempts a few longer comparative structures, for example, “full time postgraduate users are 25 percent compared to part time postgraduate users which was 16 percent.” However, grammatical errors are frequent: “survey that conducted” is missing an auxiliary, “users was” has subject–verb disagreement, and “which was 16 percent” does not agree with the plural noun “users.” Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “In pie chart” and “the results of survey.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main figures, but they make the writing less controlled. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and agreement, and combine simple sentences with correctly formed comparisons.
