Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also note that staff helpfulness has the highest very-satisfied result and that nobody was dissatisfied with opening hours or staff helpfulness. However, the report is incomplete and addresses the task only partially: it stops mid-sentence at “By contrast,” and gives no account of the remaining user categories or most satisfaction results. The overview is also broad rather than a clear summary of the main patterns. The response contains 91 words, below the required 150, which contributes to the limited coverage. To improve, complete the comparison and report the key contrasts across both visuals, including the lower satisfaction for journals and wi-fi.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview and then a specific figure. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “While,” and “By contrast” show an effort to connect ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview combines several points in one sentence, and the final paragraph ends abruptly after “By contrast,” leaving the comparison unfinished. The phrase “two chart reveal clear differences and trend” does not clearly explain what those differences are, so the reader cannot see how the overview guides the details. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and the two sets of data, and ensure each comparison is completed with an accurate figure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “survey,” “recorded,” “highest,” and “categories,” and you attempt to describe proportions with “stood at 25%.” This gives the response a minimally adequate range for reporting the chart. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several noticeable spelling or word-choice errors reduce clarity, such as “pie cahart,” “helpfuness,” “renained,” and “catagories.” Phrases such as “highest library users” and “recorded the highest” are also imprecise or awkward for describing percentages. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “accounted for the largest share” and “the proportion of users.” Proofread spelling carefully and vary the language used to compare figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “While full-time undergraduate from first chart recorded the highest library users, whereas academic staff remained the lowest.” However, this construction is faulty because “while” and “whereas” are used together, and the sentence lacks clear grammatical relationships between the groups and their proportions. There are also recurring agreement and article problems, as in “two chart reveal,” and the table sentence “the helpfulness of staff recorded the highest who were very satisfied” is structurally unclear. The short response provides few examples of accurate sentence control, and the unfinished final sentence further limits the range demonstrated. Build comparisons with complete, direct structures, such as “Undergraduates made up the largest group, at 44%, while academic staff accounted for 7%.”
