Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify several key figures, including undergraduates as the largest user group (44%) and academic staff as the smallest (7%), and you report some satisfaction results accurately. However, the response is incomplete: it stops partway through the journals figures and omits the wi-fi results, so the main features of the table are not fully summarised. There is also no clear overview comparing the two sets of information. One figure is inaccurate: staff helpfulness is reported as 95% very satisfied and 5% fairly satisfied, but you give 35% for the latter. The response is 30 words below the required minimum, which contributes to its limited coverage. Organise the main comparisons and include a concise overview before adding selected details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it first describes the user categories and then moves to satisfaction ratings. This gives the reader some sense of the two parts of the visual, and linking words such as “Moreover” and “However” show an attempt to connect information. However, these connectors are repeated mechanically and do not always express a meaningful contrast; for example, “However” is used between adjacent satisfaction figures. The long second paragraph also combines many separate data points, while the final sentence breaks off at “Mor,” leaving the information unfinished. Use separate paragraphs for the chart and table, group related results, and connect comparisons directly rather than relying on repeated transition words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “full-time undergraduate,” “distance learning,” “very satisfied,” and “availability of journals,” so the reader can recognise the categories being described. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, including repeated use of “has” and “is.” Some word forms and spellings also reduce accuracy, such as “libary,” “categorie,” and “Futhermore.” Aim for more precise reporting verbs and collocations, for example, “accounted for” when describing proportions and “rated the service as” for satisfaction results. Check spelling and use consistent forms such as “part-time” and “course” to make the description clearer and more polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most of the response relies on short, simple statements, and there is an attempt to use longer forms with connectors. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or incorrectly formed. The opening, “In this pie chart and table illustrates,” has no grammatical subject for “illustrates,” and “In the library opening hours is very satisfied 65%” does not form a clear sentence. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, as in “44%.Moreover” and “Moreover, fairly.” These errors sometimes make relationships between the figures difficult to follow. Practise complete reporting sentences, such as “The chart shows that undergraduates made up 44% of users,” and vary these with accurate comparisons. Proofread for sentence boundaries and punctuation.
