Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The pie chart and table depicts results of a survery conducted among library users at a university. The information is in percentage.

Overall, full-time undergraduates users are more in comparision to all other categories and academic staff being the least. Along side, the majority users are satisfied with the helpfulness of staff. However, a few are not satisfied with the availabilty of the journals in library.

Categorically noticing the users, 44% of the full-time undergraduates use the library, whereas there are one fourth users from full-time postraguates. Looking forward, the part-time postgraduate users are just 16%. By combining the distance learners and academic staff in total makes similar as the part-time postgraduate students.

The statistics of library user satisfaction clearly shows that peple are more satisfies with the library's helpful staff. Availabilit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also note the high satisfaction with staff helpfulness and lower satisfaction with journals. However, the report is only partial: the satisfaction table is barely described, and the response ends mid-sentence at “Availabilit,” leaving several important comparisons unreported. The statement that combining distance learners and academic staff is similar to the part-time postgraduate figure is broadly accurate (15% versus 16%), but it is not developed into a useful overview. The response also falls 18 words short of the required minimum. To improve, complete the account and select key contrasts across the table, such as staff helpfulness (95% very satisfied) versus journals (20% not satisfied).

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: an introduction is followed by an overview and then paragraphs on user categories and satisfaction. This gives the reader a general sense of the report’s intended structure. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops abruptly, and the satisfaction data are not organised into clear comparisons. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Along side,” and “Looking forward” are used, but some are inaccurate or do not clearly express the relationship between ideas. The sentence about combining two user groups is also difficult to follow. Use a complete final paragraph, group related figures together, and connect comparisons directly—for example, contrast the high staff rating with the lower ratings for journals and wi-fi.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “categories,” “satisfaction,” “availability,” and “majority,” and the reader can generally understand the intended topic. However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce precision: “survery,” “comparision,” “postraguates,” “peple,” and “satisfies.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “Categorically noticing the users” and “helpful staff,” where the table refers to the helpfulness of staff. Aim for accurate, conventional language for describing proportions and survey results, and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “accounted for,” “represented,” and “very satisfied” would help you report the figures clearly without relying on awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “whereas” comparisons and the sentence beginning “By combining…,” but control is inconsistent. The opening says “The pie chart and table depicts,” where the plural subject requires “depict.” In “By combining the distance learners and academic staff in total makes similar as…,” the sentence has no clear grammatical subject and the comparison is incomplete; a clearer form would be “Together, distance learners and academic staff account for 15%, similar to the 16% of part-time postgraduates.” There are also problems with articles and noun forms, as in “full-time undergraduates users.” The final sentence is unfinished, so it cannot communicate a complete idea. Build accurate simple sentences first, then add complex comparisons and proofread agreement and sentence completion.
