Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify two relevant features: full-time undergraduates form the largest user group (44%), while academic staff are the smallest (7%), and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction result (95% very satisfied). However, the report covers the data only partially. It omits the other three user categories and gives little comparison across the satisfaction table; for example, journals and wi-fi have notable dissatisfaction levels that are not discussed. The overview is also vague and partly inaccurate: “some individual” does not summarise the overall satisfaction pattern, and “a few” dissatisfied users overlooks the 20% dissatisfied with journals. The response is 141 words, below the required 150. Include a clearer overview and select more key comparisons to complete the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has separate introductory, overview and detail paragraphs, and it attempts to move from user categories to satisfaction results. This gives it some basic organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because the details are incomplete and connections between them are unclear. For instance, “Other was for fairly satisfied in this” does not make clear which survey category is being discussed, while the final paragraph shifts between staff, journals, books and opening hours without a consistent comparison. Linking phrases such as “At first” and “Majority of people” do not reliably signal the relationships between figures. Organise the body into one paragraph on user categories and another comparing satisfaction results, using clear references to each category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “full-time undergraduate,” “very satisfied,” “fairly satisfied” and “availability,” so the reader can recognise the main subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the report less clear, such as “porstion,” “satisfation,” “bools” and “jounrals.” Phrases including “staff's helpful nature” and “library on” are also unnatural or imprecise for describing survey results. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language and vary the repeated satisfaction terms where appropriate. For example, describe a group as “accounting for” a percentage and say users were “satisfied with staff helpfulness.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can understand several key points, such as “95% were very satisfied with staff's helpful nature.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and sentence patterns are often incomplete or awkward. Examples include “there was large porstion” and “there was the 44% of students,” where articles and sentence construction are not controlled. The sentence beginning “Other was for fairly satisfied” lacks a clear grammatical subject and is difficult to interpret. There are also problems with plural and agreement patterns, as in “some individual was.” Practise accurate comparative sentences, such as “Full-time undergraduates accounted for 44% of users,” and check articles, subjects and verb forms.
