Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the largest user group accurately (full-time undergraduates, 44%) and report the other user categories with correct figures. The overview also attempts to highlight satisfaction patterns, but the claim that journal availability is the main cause of dissatisfaction is not quite supported: journals have the highest dissatisfaction (20%), while books and wi-fi are also notable, at 10% and 19%. More importantly, the response stops before reporting most of the satisfaction data; it only gives the 95% figure for staff helpfulness and begins an unfinished comparison. The task is therefore only partially covered, with key information under-developed. The response is also 7 words below the required minimum. Complete the table summary by comparing the main satisfaction results and include a clear concluding overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories, and a final paragraph that starts to address satisfaction. This gives the response some organisation, and words such as “Overall” and “However” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph ends abruptly after “availability of books,” leaving the table discussion incomplete. Some linking is also awkward or inaccurate, as in “Overall… while” and the sentence beginning “95% of users… While,” where “while” does not connect a complete contrast. The overview and body could be arranged more clearly by summarising the user profile first, then comparing satisfaction results in a complete paragraph. Use linking expressions only where the relationship between the points is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “satisfaction,” and “availability,” and you attempt to describe comparisons with “nearly half” and “a quarter.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the response difficult to read, such as “staisfaction,” “dofferend,” “fill-time,” and “disatisfaction.” Some phrases are also unnatural for describing survey data: “the library is used majorly by” and “the library is featured by helpful staffs.” Prefer precise collocations such as “accounted for,” “users were satisfied with,” and “staff helpfulness.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “used” when describing the proportions of different user groups.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “people who are use the library” combines incompatible verb forms, while “the percentage of satisfaction in different ways” lacks a clear grammatical relationship. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also problematic in “Overall… undergraduate. while…” and “95% of users are satisfied… While…,” where the second clause is left incomplete. There are also errors in articles and number agreement, as in “the helpful staffs.” Build accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses only when their structure is secure. Proofread for complete sentences, correct verb forms, and appropriate punctuation.
