Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The pie chart compares the category of library users at a university and the table below elaborates the satisfaction percentage of different category of services provided by the library.

In the pie chart full-time undergraduates are the maximum user of the library. They holds 44% of the library user percentage within 100%. This is expacted as full time undergraduates spend more time to learn. Full time postgraduates holds 25% of the pie chart but part time postgraduates holds 16%. Most of the postgraduate students do part time jobs so these parcentages are justified as well. Distance learning students of all couses only holds 8% and academic staff holds only 7%. This is the lowest parcentage in the pie chart.

In library user satisfaction table 65% of the users are satisfied and 35% are fairly satisfied and no one is unsatisfied about the opening hours. This is a good sign. 95% of the user are very satisfied about helpfullness of the library stuff and 5% are fairly satisfied. This is the most successfull section in the table. In availability of the books section 50% are satisfied and 40% are satisfied fairly and 10% of the users are not satisfied. There's a room for improvement in this seection. Availability of the journal section is the worse as 45% are very satisfied and 35% are fairly satisfied and 20% are not satisfied at all. So an improvement is needed here badly. We can see similar case in reliability of wi-fi. 48% are very satisfied 33 are fairly but 19% are not satisfied. This needs an improvement as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also report most satisfaction figures accurately, including the strong result for staff helpfulness and the lower ratings for journals and Wi-Fi. However, the response does not provide a concise overview that draws together the main patterns across both visuals. Instead, it adds unsupported explanations such as students spending more time studying and postgraduates doing part-time jobs, and gives recommendations such as saying improvement is needed. These are not shown by the data. Focus on summarising the largest and smallest user groups and contrasting the strongest and weakest satisfaction results, without speculating about causes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is arranged in a clear sequence: an introduction, a paragraph about user categories, and a paragraph about satisfaction. This makes the two visuals easy to distinguish, and phrases such as “In the pie chart” and “In library user satisfaction table” help signal the topic. Within the paragraphs, however, the progression is often a list of figures followed by repeated evaluations, such as “This is a good sign” and “This needs an improvement as well.” Some linking is mechanical, and the final paragraph would be clearer if related satisfaction results were grouped and compared rather than discussed one by one. Use a brief overview and more precise comparisons to create a stronger progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “full-time undergraduates,” “availability,” “satisfaction,” and “reliability,” so the reader can follow the subject. There is also some attempt to describe relative performance with phrases such as “the lowest percentage” and “the most successful section.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, including “maximum user,” “holds 44%,” “satisfied fairly,” and “the worse.” Spelling errors such as “expacted,” “parcentages,” and “helpfullness” are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, use “account for” with percentages and “least satisfactory” when comparing ratings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You produce a mix of simple statements and longer sentences, and most of the information remains understandable. Some sentence patterns are handled successfully, such as “Distance learning students … only holds 8% and academic staff holds only 7%,” although the subject–verb agreement is not consistent. Errors recur in agreement and sentence construction: “They holds” should be “They hold,” and “95% of the user are” should be “95% of users are.” The sentence beginning “In availability of the books section” is also awkwardly formed, while punctuation is missing between some figures, as in “48% are very satisfied 33 are fairly.” Use complete, clearly punctuated comparisons and check agreement, articles, and plural forms.
