Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response covers both visuals and gives a clear overview: undergraduates form the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and staff helpfulness and journal availability stand out in the satisfaction results. Most figures are reported accurately, including the 44%, 25%, 16%, 7% and 8% user shares and the key satisfaction extremes. The phrase “full-time postgraduate students” at 25% is correct, but the overview’s claim that the library “mostly consisted” of the two full-time student groups is a little broad: together they account for 69%, rather than nearly all users. The satisfaction summary could also be more complete by comparing the remaining categories, especially the 50% very satisfied with books and 48% with wi-fi. Overall, the main features are selected and supported clearly, with some scope for more precise comparison.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The organisation is clear and easy to follow: an introduction is followed by an overview, then a paragraph on user categories and one on satisfaction. This gives the reader a logical progression through both visuals. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” “At the same time,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships, and the final paragraph groups the satisfaction findings effectively. Some connections are slightly mechanical, however, and “Meanwhile” does not express a particularly strong contrast between the two overview points. The final paragraph also moves quickly from staff helpfulness to opening hours and then to three other measures, so a more deliberate grouping—such as comparing satisfaction levels across all five services—would make the progression even smoother. Referencing remains clear throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response uses an adequate range of task-relevant vocabulary, including “findings,” “categories,” “satisfied,” “availability,” and “percentage,” and the meaning is consistently understandable. There are attempts at more formal phrasing, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “a research of library customers” would be more naturally expressed as “a survey of library users,” while “had the most satisfied users by 95%” is not idiomatic. “Mostly consisted of” is also imprecise for describing the proportions in a chart. Spelling slips such as “peope,” “percetages,” “seond,” and “Availabilty” show that proofreading needs attention. More precise chart language and accurate spelling would improve flexibility and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and several sentences communicate the data clearly, for example, “Helpfulness of staff had the most satisfied users by 95% and 0% not satisfied.” The overview also uses contrastive clauses, and the response is generally easy to understand. Some grammatical patterns are not fully controlled. In “Significant number of peope were satisfied,” the singular count noun needs an article (“A significant number…”); “the lowest percetages of were” contains an incomplete construction; and “students being 44%” is an awkward participial structure that would be clearer as “accounting for 44%.” The sentence beginning “Availabilty of journals and reliability of wifi” also needs articles before the category names. Greater accuracy in these patterns, alongside varied sentence structures, would strengthen the writing.
