Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses both visuals and gives a clear overview of the main patterns: undergraduates form the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and journal satisfaction has the highest dissatisfaction. The reported user-group figures are accurate, and the comparison of opening hours and staff helpfulness correctly combines the satisfied categories to reach 100%. You also identify the 20% dissatisfaction figure for journals and compare it with books. To make the account more fully developed, include the notable 95% very-satisfied result for staff helpfulness and compare satisfaction levels across the remaining services, especially the relatively high 50% very satisfied for books. The overview is relevant, though “pretty much every library user” could be more precisely tied to the two services where dissatisfaction is zero.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for user categories and satisfaction. This makes the two visuals easy to follow, and sequencing the user groups from largest to smaller shares is effective. Some linking is also used to signal contrast, such as “in contrast” and “followed by.” However, cohesion is not always smooth: several sentences begin with “While,” creating fragments or abrupt transitions, and “Similar pattern” does not clearly explain how the staff result relates to opening hours. The final paragraph also moves through several services without a consistent comparison pattern. Use complete sentences and organise the satisfaction data by highlighting the strongest positive results first, then contrasting the areas with more dissatisfaction.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “largest share,” “satisfaction levels,” “accounted for,” and “followed by.” These expressions help communicate the main comparisons, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural collocations, including “undergruates,” “roughtly,” “helpfullness,” and “most amount of not satisfied users.” Phrases such as “three times less” are also unclear for describing a proportion. Aim for accurate spelling and conventional chart language, for example “the smallest proportion of dissatisfied users” and “approximately one-third of the figure.” Greater precision in these choices would make the report more fluent and appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts some complex structures, including contrast clauses and participial reporting, and most of the data remains understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven, with recurring problems in agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “full-time undergraduates represents” should use a plural verb, while “while table shows” needs an article. The clauses beginning “While, distance learning…” and “While Availability…” are incomplete or incorrectly punctuated, and “followed by full-time postgraduate stands at 25%” combines two structures awkwardly. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and articles. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make the complex comparisons easier to read.
