Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses both visuals and gives a clear overview of the main patterns: full-time undergraduates are the largest user group, distance learners the smallest, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction ratings while journals perform least well. The figures reported for the user groups and satisfaction categories are accurate, and the overview is supported with relevant details. The account also covers opening hours, books and wi-fi, so the main information is well selected. To make the report more fully developed, include a direct comparison across the satisfaction rows—for example, note that opening hours have no dissatisfied users, unlike books, journals and wi-fi. The phrase “other being fairly satisfied” is also imprecise where the exact percentages could be stated.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: an introduction, an overview, then details about user categories and satisfaction. This gives the report a coherent overall shape, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Additionally” and “Similarly” help connect points. However, the second paragraph combines several overview claims, while the final paragraph moves between user-group figures and satisfaction results, so the grouping could be more consistent. Some connections are also mechanical, particularly repeated use of “with” to attach figures to claims. Organise the body into clearer groups—first user categories, then satisfaction results—and use comparisons such as “by contrast” or “whereas” to make relationships between the data more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The response uses an adequate range of vocabulary for describing the visuals, including “distribution,” “overall,” “very satisfied” and “reliability.” The meaning is generally clear, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: users are described as “most observed,” and journals are called the “worst rated category.” There are also spelling errors in “helfulness” and “distibution,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe groups as the “largest proportion of library users,” and say that journals received the “lowest satisfaction ratings.” This would make the report sound more natural and improve precision without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a clear introductory clause and sentences using “while” and “whereas”-type comparisons. Most of the data remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In “none not being satisfied,” the construction is awkward and the negative is unnecessary; use “with no users dissatisfied.” In “33 % them being fairly satisfied,” the preposition “of” is missing, and “satisfied about the opening hours of library” needs an article and a more suitable preposition. The long overview sentence also joins several claims in a way that makes its structure difficult to follow. Check articles, prepositions and clause construction, and use shorter sentences when reporting several figures.
