Student answer (Band 5.5)

The chart and table illustrate the survey results of library users at a university. Overall, it is clear that full time undergraduate students make up biggest contribution of library users, whereas, Academic staff account the smallest proportion in library users. Additionally, helpfulness of staff and library opening hours are high satisfied by library users, however, other (Availability of journals, Reliability of wi-fi and Availability of books) do not have biggest different.

Full-time undergraduate learners proportion far high then other categories around 44%,while, Full-time postgraduate and Part-time postgradualte students contributed 41%. Academic staff and distance learning(Particularly all courses) are proportion around 15%. Academic staff was consider lowest contribution by students in library users.

In the table, Library opening hours and helpfulness of staff are very satisfied by pupils around 65% and 95% respectievely, in contrast, Availability of books, availability of journals and Reliability of wi-fi are 50% and 45% and 48% respectievely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also select relevant satisfaction categories and report the very-satisfied figures for opening hours, staff helpfulness, books, journals and Wi-Fi accurately. However, the overview is partly unclear: saying the other categories “do not have biggest different” does not explain the satisfaction pattern. The response also combines postgraduate groups as 41% and the staff and distance-learning groups as 15%, rather than clearly comparing each category. More importantly, the table discussion gives only very-satisfied figures and omits the useful contrast that staff helpfulness has 95% very satisfied and no dissatisfaction, while journals have the highest dissatisfaction at 20%. Develop these comparisons more explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a paragraph on user categories and one on satisfaction. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the two visuals. Some links, however, are mechanical or unclear. The overview’s “however” does not establish a clear contrast, and “other (Availability of journals, Reliability of wi-fi and Availability of books)” makes the relationship between the categories and the claim difficult to follow. In the second paragraph, “while” and “then” do not clearly signal the intended comparisons. Group the satisfaction results by pattern—for example, staff and opening hours versus books, journals and Wi-Fi—and use precise references so each comparison is easy to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “categories,” “satisfaction,” and “reliability of wi-fi,” and the reader can generally identify the intended data. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “make up biggest contribution,” “high satisfied,” “do not have biggest different,” and “lowest contribution by students” do not express the comparisons clearly. There are also spelling and form errors, such as “respectievely” and “postgradualte.” Aim for standard chart language such as “account for,” “were very satisfied,” and “the smallest share.” Use “users” or “respondents” rather than “pupils,” which is not appropriate for a university library survey.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a sentence beginning “In contrast.” The main information is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “full time undergraduate students make up biggest contribution” is missing an article and has an unsuitable sentence pattern; “Academic staff account the smallest proportion” needs “for”; and “Full-time undergraduate learners proportion far high then other categories” lacks a clear subject–verb structure. Agreement and verb forms also need attention in “are high satisfied” and “Academic staff was consider.” Check articles, prepositions, and complete clause structure, and punctuate comparisons carefully. More consistently accurate sentences would make your data reporting easier to understand.
