Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The pie chart depicts the results of a survey of five categories of library individuals at a university. It is measured in percentages. The table illustrates the proportion of people satisfaction towards different facilities of the library. Overall, full-time undergraduate has the highest proportion, while the academic staff has the lowest percentage. In addition, helpfulness of staff accounted for the highest satisfaction, whereas availability of journals accounted for the lowest satisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart types and give a relevant overview: full-time undergraduates are the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction. However, the response reports only one detailed figure—44%—and stops before describing the other user categories or the satisfaction results. The claim that journals had the lowest satisfaction is broadly supported if referring to the very-satisfied share, but the table also shows wi-fi has a lower overall positive share, so this comparison needs clearer qualification. The response is also 70 words below the required minimum. To address the task more fully, report several key figures from both visuals and compare the satisfaction ratings accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, understandable structure: an introduction is followed by an overview and the start of a detail paragraph. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In addition,” and “To begin” help signal these stages. However, the progression is incomplete because the final paragraph ends after the single figure “44% of total,” leaving the reader without a developed account of either visual. The overview also combines the two charts but does not lead into a systematic comparison of their details. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the user categories and satisfaction table, and ensure each paragraph develops its point before moving on. This would make the organisation more complete and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some appropriate task vocabulary, including “pie chart,” “proportion,” “percentage,” and “satisfaction,” and the meaning is generally clear. There is some attempt to vary wording, but several choices are unnatural or imprecise for an academic report: “library individuals” is not a natural description of users, and “people satisfaction towards different facilities” is awkward. “Facilities” is also too broad for items such as opening hours, staff helpfulness, and wi-fi reliability. The phrase “accounted for” is suitable for the 44% figure, but the response needs a wider range of accurate terms to describe the table and make comparisons. Prefer concise, conventional collocations such as “library users,” “satisfaction with services,” and “the highest proportion.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes mostly clear simple sentences and attempts a more complex comparison with “while” and “whereas.” These structures communicate the main overview, but the range remains narrow, and there are agreement and article errors. For example, “full-time undergraduate has the highest proportion” should use a plural noun and verb (“full-time undergraduates have”), while “the academic staff has” is also grammatically mismatched; “academic staff” is treated as a group. In “Full-time undergraduate accounted for 44% of total,” the noun phrase and final article are incomplete. Aim to produce complete sentences throughout and check subject–verb agreement, plural forms, and articles. More varied sentence patterns would help express comparisons without sacrificing accuracy.
