Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main user groups and report the key proportions accurately, including the largest group (full-time undergraduates, 44%), the smallest (academic staff, 7%), and the combined postgraduate share (41%). You also select notable satisfaction results, especially staff helpfulness and opening hours, and your overview correctly highlights the strongest satisfaction result. This covers the task well, with some features more fully reported than others: the final sentence’s “below or equally satisfied to 50%” is unclear and does not accurately summarise the remaining services. You could strengthen the response by comparing the book, journal and wi-fi ratings more precisely—for example, noting that books have 50% very satisfied, while journals have the highest dissatisfaction at 20%. The overview is relevant, but a clearer summary of the table’s overall pattern would make it more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a final paragraph on satisfaction. This gives the information an overall logical arrangement. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” “In addition” and “Whereas” help signal relationships between points. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “Whereas, rest of the people are below or equally satisfied to 50%” does not clearly identify which services or satisfaction categories are being compared, and “In the pie chart” is repeated to begin the detailed paragraph. The introduction also spends space listing all categories before the main comparisons. Use clearer references and organise the table details into a direct comparison of the five services to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main information, including “satisfaction,” “helpfulness,” “portion,” and “combining.” There is also some attempt to vary expression, such as “major part” and “lowest portion.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing charts: “pin chart” should be “pie chart,” “most of the people like” is too informal and does not precisely describe satisfaction ratings, and “undertaken by” is not suitable for a category’s share. Repetition of “most,” “part” and “people” also limits flexibility. Aim for precise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “represented,” “the largest share,” and “respondents were very satisfied.” These improvements would make the vocabulary more natural and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “from which,” and the main figures remain understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur in agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “Full-time undergraduate have” needs a singular or plural subject-verb match, while “table have three major satisfaction type” has errors in both agreement and number. The phrase “the 95% and 65% in very satisfied” is also not formed as a complete, accurate clause. Punctuation around dashes and commas is sometimes awkward. Practise building clear comparison sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, such as “Staff helpfulness received 95% very satisfied responses, compared with 65% for opening hours.”
