Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart and table and report the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates make up 44%, the largest share. You also note that staff helpfulness has the highest satisfaction, which is supported by the table. However, the response stops before completing the figures for distance learners and omits academic staff, as well as most of the satisfaction results and useful comparisons. The overview is brief, and the task is only minimally addressed because the response contains 72 words, below the required 150. To improve, complete the summary and select key contrasts, such as the 95% very satisfied with staff helpfulness versus 45% for journals, while accurately covering the remaining user categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the two visuals, an overview follows, and the final sentence begins to report user-category figures. Linking words such as “while” and “following this” show an effort to connect information. However, the response ends mid-sentence after “distance learning represented,” so the progression is incomplete and the reader cannot see how the figures relate to the rest of the data. The overview also repeats the chart/table contrast from the introduction rather than developing the summary. Use complete paragraphs and finish each comparison; then group the user proportions together and the satisfaction findings together for clearer progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted,” “represented,” and “satisfaction,” and the reader can generally identify the intended categories. However, the range is limited and some phrases are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “the result of a survey” and “the library users satisfaction.” Spelling errors in “undergrauates” and “porportion” also reduce precision. Aim for more natural chart language and vary the reporting verbs, while checking spelling carefully. For example, “the largest proportion of users” is more idiomatic than “accounted largest proportion,” and “user satisfaction” is a concise alternative to “the library users satisfaction.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both a compound sentence and an overview structure, but grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error in “The pie chart illustrate,” and the phrase “the table show” repeats this problem. Articles and sentence construction are also faulty in “accounted largest proportion,” while the final sentence is incomplete and leaves its verb phrase unfinished. Most of the response relies on simple reporting structures, so there is little evidence of a controlled range. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete clauses first, then use a few well-formed comparisons, such as “Undergraduates accounted for 44%, whereas academic staff made up 7%.”
