Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the largest user group correctly (full-time undergraduates, 44%) and report several satisfaction figures accurately, including opening hours and staff helpfulness. However, the response covers the task only partially: it omits the journal-availability results (45% very satisfied, 35% fairly satisfied and 20% not satisfied), and the final claim about satisfaction with the library’s “ambience and rules” is not supported by the data. The overview is limited, rather than drawing out the main contrast that staff helpfulness received the strongest satisfaction while books, journals and wi-fi attracted some dissatisfaction. The response is also 10 words below the required minimum, which restricts the detail available. Include the missing category and a clearer data-based overview to develop the report more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the visuals, describes user categories, reports satisfaction results and ends with a conclusion. This gives the reader some organisation, and “Overall” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between points. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the satisfaction figures are presented in a long run of statements, and the final “in conclusion” repeats a general judgement rather than synthesising the key comparisons. Some linking is also awkward, as in “The users are 65% are very satisfied,” making the relationship between the figures and the categories harder to follow. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the user profile and satisfaction results, and connect the latter through clear comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “full-time undergraduate,” “part-time postgraduate,” “very satisfied” and “availability of books,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, including “users of library” and “minimum user of library.” Some word choices do not fit the data: “ambience and rules” are not categories shown in the table, and “library staff” is less precise than “helpfulness of staff.” Spelling errors such as “illustarte,” “Availabilty” and “libary” also reduce accuracy. Aim for concise reporting language and vary expressions for proportions and satisfaction while keeping labels faithful to the chart.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly relies on short, simple statements, with little variety in sentence structure. Frequent errors in agreement and sentence formation make some information difficult to process. For example, “full-time undergraduate are biggest users” has a singular subject with a plural verb, while “The users are 65% are very satisfied” contains an unnecessary repeated verb and an unclear construction. In “Distance learning and academic staff is the minimum user,” the compound subject does not agree with “is,” and the comparison is not grammatically formed. There is also inconsistent capitalisation at the start of the final sentence. Practise accurate patterns such as “X accounted for Y%” and “Y% of respondents were satisfied,” then combine these with controlled comparisons.
