The chart and table below demonstrates the results of a survey of library users at a university.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main user group and the smallest groups accurately, and your overview also notes the strong satisfaction with opening hours and staff helpfulness. The figures you give for the user categories and the two highest satisfaction ratings match the data. This provides a relevant summary, but some comparisons are incomplete or unclear: for example, you say satisfaction with books, journals and wi-fi is “approximately same” without distinguishing their different profiles. The table shows that books have 50% very satisfied, while journals have 45% and wi-fi 48%; dissatisfaction is also notably higher for journals and wi-fi than for books. To strengthen the response, report these contrasts more precisely and make the overview cover the main satisfaction pattern across all five aspects. Eleven words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a paragraph on satisfaction. This helps the reader follow the two visual elements. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes disrupted by connectors that do not fit the relationship between ideas. For instance, “However” introduces the user-category details even though no contrast is being made, and “While” begins a fragment after the sentence about full-time postgraduates. “In contrast” also does not clearly signal the move to satisfaction data. Some references, such as “the users” and “the user,” are repetitive and vague. Use fewer, more accurate linking expressions and organise the satisfaction comparisons in a clear sequence, such as highest ratings first, followed by the less positive results.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “full-time undergraduates,” “part-time postgraduates,” “very satisfied” and “availability of journals,” so the topic remains clear. There is also some attempt to vary expressions, such as “represented” and “made up.” However, several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, including “acquire almost half of proportion,” “44% use of library” and “shares the 25% portion.” Repeated use of “users” and “percentage” also limits flexibility. Choose standard chart-reporting collocations such as “accounted for,” “represented” or “the proportion of users,” and use “satisfaction ratings” when discussing the table. More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons easier to understand without changing the underlying information.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a comparison with “While” and a sentence beginning “In addition.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships unclear. For example, “The chart and table below demonstrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the full-time undergraduates acquire almost half of proportion” has an incomplete article structure. The sentence beginning “While, the full-time post graduates…” is not a complete sentence, and “the user are” shows agreement problems. Review subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and avoid starting a new sentence with a dependent “while” clause unless it is joined to a main clause. These corrections would improve control while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
