Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both visuals and identify the main patterns: undergraduates form the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction ratings. Most figures are reported accurately, including the satisfaction breakdowns. However, “only 75 users are academic staff” misreads 7% as a count; this should remain “7%.” The overview also says helpfulness has the highest percentage without specifying that this refers to very satisfied users, and it could better summarise the contrast between high satisfaction with staff and opening hours and lower ratings for journals and Wi-Fi. Overall, the response selects and reports relevant features, but some comparisons and the overview are not fully precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories, and a final paragraph covering satisfaction. This makes the information easy to locate, and the sequence within the table paragraph follows the listed categories. However, progression is sometimes mechanical: “Moreover,” “further,” “Secondly,” and “Finally” do more to mark sequence than to show meaningful relationships. The overview’s “While table demonstrates…” construction is also awkwardly connected, and the final paragraph becomes a long series of similar data statements. To strengthen cohesion, group related satisfaction results—for example, the strongest ratings together and the less positive areas together—and use clearer referencing and transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “proportion,” “satisfaction,” “availability,” and “reliability,” so the meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range and control are limited by repeated wording, especially “percentage,” “users,” and “satisfied,” and several collocations are unnatural: “major proportion covers by,” “segment … occupied by,” and “highest percentage covered by.” “Projects” is also not an appropriate verb for describing chart data. There are spelling errors in “staisfied” and “under graduates,” while “distance learner” is imprecise for a category. Aim for accurate reporting verbs and natural phrases such as “accounted for,” “made up,” and “the highest share of respondents were very satisfied.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast beginning “While table demonstrates…” and clauses describing satisfaction levels. However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors recur in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “the pie chart projects the categories” lacks a natural grammatical pattern, while “the part-time postgraduate user are 16%” has a subject–verb agreement problem. “The number of users very satisfied … are 65%” also uses an unsuitable sentence structure, and several sentences omit articles, as in “While table demonstrates.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the figures, but they make the prose less accurate and fluent. Practise complete, well-formed comparison sentences and check agreement and articles.
