Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user group as full-time undergraduates and the smallest as academic staff, and you include several figures from the chart. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not clearly summarise the strongest satisfaction results, especially the 95% very satisfied with staff helpfulness and the absence of dissatisfaction with opening hours. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: undergraduates account for 44%, not “among 40%,” and 25% and 16% are the second- and third-largest user groups, respectively. The satisfaction paragraph mostly generalises rather than reporting key comparisons, and it incorrectly suggests only a few users were fairly satisfied, despite 35–40% being fairly satisfied for several categories. The response is also below the required 150 words, limiting the detail provided. Develop a clearer overview and report the most notable satisfaction figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a basic, sensible structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories, and a final paragraph on satisfaction. This gives the reader a general route through the information. However, progression is weakened because the overview repeats the user-category point rather than previewing both charts, and the final paragraph groups all satisfaction measures together without a clear order or comparison. Linking words such as “However” do not express a clear contrast in context, while “but” and “this” in the final sentence make the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. Separate the two data sets more clearly and organise satisfaction results from the strongest to the weakest, using precise references such as “these figures” rather than “this.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “survey,” “satisfied,” and “reliability,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “40% consumer of library” is not a natural way to describe the undergraduate share, and “ranked on second and third” is awkward. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “amont,” “contibutes,” “Majortity,” “abailabitity,” and “satisfection.” Use standard terms such as “users,” “accounted for,” and “very satisfied,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish user categories from satisfaction ratings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a sentence beginning “Majority of readers satisfied…”. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and agreement occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For instance, “the proportion of full time undergraduate student … is the highest” has problems with number and article use, while “Academic staff and distant learning are low in numbers, which contributes 7%” has an unclear subject–verb relationship and an incomplete percentage construction. The final sentence also joins contrasting ideas in a confusing way. Practise accurate patterns such as “Full-time undergraduates accounted for 44%” and “No respondents were dissatisfied with opening hours.” Use shorter, complete sentences before attempting more complex comparisons.
