Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify both visuals and give a basic overview of the user categories, correctly noting that full-time undergraduates are the largest group and that distance learners and academic staff are the smallest. However, the response only partially reports the satisfaction table: it focuses on staff and journals, omitting opening hours, books and wi-fi, and it does not give a clear overview of the main satisfaction patterns. There is also a data error: 95% were very satisfied with staff, not simply “satisfied,” while 5% were fairly satisfied. The claim that 40% were fairly satisfied is not clearly linked to books, where that figure applies. The response is 142 words, below the required 150. Include the key table comparisons and a concise overall summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a final paragraph about satisfaction. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is divided. However, progression in the final paragraph is difficult to follow because several figures and categories are joined without clear relationships. For example, “Availibilty of journals making the least percentage…” is followed by a comparison with staff satisfaction, then an unclear statement about 40%. Linking words such as “Conversely,” “However,” and “Furthermore” are used, but they do not always express the relationship between the data accurately. Organise the table details in a clearer sequence and use explicit comparisons to improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “categories,” “satisfied,” and “percentage,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision. Phrases such as “were accounting the highest proportion,” “making the least percentage,” and “in high percentages” are not natural ways to describe survey results. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “perntages,” “pertentage,” “Availibilty,” “makjng,” and “helpfulnees.” Use accurate terms consistently, such as “accounted for,” “the lowest proportion,” and “the percentage who were fairly satisfied.” Proofreading would help prevent these errors from distracting the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms and use past-tense reporting language, but control is inconsistent. The opening sentence has a subject–verb agreement error: “The chart and table… describes” should be “describe.” In “full time graduate users were accounting the highest proportion,” the verb pattern is incorrect; a clearer form is “full-time undergraduate users accounted for the largest share.” The fragment “Followed by full time post-graduate students…” also needs to be joined to a complete sentence. Later, “Availibilty of journals making…” lacks a finite verb, and the long final paragraph contains unclear sentence construction. These errors occur often enough to make some relationships difficult to interpret. Practise complete sentences and accurate reporting structures, while varying sentence patterns.
