Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart illustrates the proportions of the different categories of library users at a university, while table presents the level of satisfaction among these users regarding five aspects of the library.

Overall, ful time undergraduates constitued the largest proportion for the library users, whereas academic staff represented the smallest group. Regarding setisfaction, the helpfulness of staff recieve the highest positive ratings, while the availability of journals and the reliability of wi-fi attracted comparatively higher levels of dissatisfaction.

Looking at the contribution of library users, full time undergraduates accounted for the largest share with 44%, followed by full time postgraduated who made 25% of total. Part time postgraduates represented a share of further 16%, while distance learning and academic staff accounted for reatively small proportions, at 8% and 7%, respectively.

Turning to the user setisfaction, helpfulness of staff recived the highest proportion of very setisfied responses, at 95% , with only 5% fairly and 0 for non satisfied, while availability of staff recived 45% for very setisfied, 35% for fairly and 10 for not setisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main user group accurately (full-time undergraduates, 44%) and the smallest (academic staff, 7%), and your overview also notes the strong staff-helpfulness ratings and comparatively greater dissatisfaction with journals and wi-fi. However, the satisfaction data are reported only partially, so the key comparisons are not fully developed. In particular, you describe “availability of staff” rather than availability of books, and give figures that do not match the books row: it is 50% very satisfied, 40% fairly satisfied and 10% not satisfied. The response also omits the opening-hours results and the wi-fi and journal figures, despite mentioning them in the overview. Covering these aspects accurately would make the summary more complete and better supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a final paragraph on satisfaction. This gives the reader a logical route through the two visuals, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Looking at” and “Turning to” help signal each stage. The progression is generally easy to follow. The final paragraph, however, ends after discussing only two satisfaction rows, leaving the overview’s references to journals and wi-fi unsupported and the table coverage incomplete. Develop that paragraph by grouping the remaining results and using comparisons to connect them, rather than presenting isolated figures. This would make the cohesion more flexible and the progression more fully sustained.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of task vocabulary, including “proportions,” “largest share,” “accounted for” and “positive ratings,” and these choices generally communicate the intended comparisons. There are also several spelling errors, such as “ful,” “constitued,” “setisfaction” and “recived,” which reduce accuracy. Some expressions are imprecise or awkward: “contribution of library users” does not naturally describe their proportions, and “non satisfied” is not the usual form for a satisfaction category. “Availability of staff” also names the wrong aspect of the table. Aim for accurate chart-reporting collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more precise without needing unnecessarily complex wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “while academic staff represented the smallest group” and the participial phrase “followed by full time postgraduated.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. The introduction needs an article in “while the table presents,” and “full time undergraduates” should be consistently hyphenated when used as a compound modifier. In the final paragraph, the long sentence beginning “helpfulness of staff received…” is difficult to control, and “with only 5% fairly and 0 for non satisfied” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Separate the figures into complete clauses and use parallel forms, such as “5% were fairly satisfied and none were dissatisfied.”
