Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are two graphs; the pie chart depicts the types of library users, and the table depicts the percentage of library users' satisfaction.

Overall, it is noticeable that the majority of library users are full-time undergraduate and post-graduate students. Additionally, staff's helpfulnes has the highest satisfaction rate, while journals availability has the lowest.

Focusing on the table, full-time undergraduate students make up to over two-fifths of the total library users, full-time postgraduate learners accounts for a fourth, while there were only 16% of part-time postgraduate who use the library. Whereas, academi staff and distance learners across different courses, make up 15% of the combined total.

The table shows that the helpfulness of library staff has the highest very satisfied rating at 95%, the library opening hours had 65% very satisfied rate, while books availability had half very statisfaction rate. Other categories only had below 50% very satisfied rates.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user group and highlight the strongest and weakest satisfaction areas, giving the response a relevant overview. Several figures are also reported accurately, including 44% for full-time undergraduates, 25% for full-time postgraduates, and 95% for staff helpfulness. However, the coverage is incomplete: the satisfaction discussion omits the figures for journals and wi-fi, and does not report the fairly or not satisfied results. The statement that journals have the lowest satisfaction is not clearly supported, since journals have the lowest very-satisfied share, but wi-fi has a slightly higher not-satisfied share. Also, academic staff and distance learners total 15%, but this is not explained as a comparison. The response is two words below the required minimum. Develop the overview and include a few more key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. The progression from user categories to satisfaction results is easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Focusing on the table” help signal the organisation. However, the paragraph beginning “Focusing on the table” actually describes the pie chart’s user categories, so the reference to the table is misleading and interrupts the flow. The final paragraph then covers only very-satisfied ratings, leaving the other satisfaction columns unintegrated. Some linking, particularly “Whereas,” is not used smoothly as a sentence connection. Use accurate topic sentences and group related figures more systematically to make the progression clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “majority,” “combined total,” “satisfaction rate,” and “make up,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary descriptions of users, such as “learners” and “distance learners.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “make up to over two-fifths” should be expressed more directly, and “half very statisfaction rate” is not a natural phrase. Spelling errors in “helpfulnes,” “academi,” and “statis…,” along with the misspelling of “post-graduate,” reduce precision. Prefer standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “the proportion who were very satisfied,” and “availability of journals.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the majority of library users are…” and a contrast structure with “while.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors do not generally prevent the reader from following the comparisons. Some grammatical control is inconsistent, however. In “full-time postgraduate learners accounts,” the plural subject requires “account”; “there were only 16% of part-time postgraduate who use” has an awkward construction and mismatched reference; and “Whereas” introduces a fragment rather than a complete sentence. The sentence listing the user groups also has unclear punctuation around “make up 15%.” Check subject–verb agreement, ensure each sentence has a complete main clause, and use consistent past or present forms when describing the figures.
