Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify two relevant features: full-time undergraduates form the largest user group, while academic staff are the smallest, and you correctly give the undergraduate figure of 44%. However, the response stops before completing its comparison and does not report the satisfaction table at all, so it only minimally covers the task. The phrase “25% for the full time post graduate” begins another relevant figure but is left unfinished, and the remaining user categories are not described. The required minimum of 150 words is also not met: the response contains 66 words. To improve, complete the summary, include the main contrasts in satisfaction (for example, staff helpfulness versus journal availability), and provide a concise overview of both visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the visuals, an overview follows, and a further paragraph begins to discuss figures. This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the final paragraph ends abruptly at “which ha,” leaving the information incomplete and preventing a clear progression through the data. The response also has no paragraph or linking transition for the satisfaction table, so the two visuals are not connected as a complete report. Develop a clear sequence—introduction, overview, then grouped details for the chart and table—and use simple links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding satisfaction” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “findings,” and “represented,” which helps communicate the general subject. There is also an attempt to vary the description of the user groups. However, the range is limited by the very short response, and some choices are inaccurate or awkward: “a research of library users” is not a natural collocation, while “library visitors” is less precise than “library users” for this chart. “Full time post graduate” also needs more accurate wording and spelling. Aim to use precise chart language consistently, such as “accounted for,” “made up,” and “satisfaction ratings,” while checking spelling and standard forms of category labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes a few controlled simple structures, such as “The bar chart and the table…” and “academic staff represented the lowest percentage…”. The overview sentence also attempts a more complex comparison using “while.” However, the range remains narrow, and the final sentence is incomplete: “25% for the full time post graduate which ha” has no finished clause, making the meaning difficult to follow. The phrase “full time undergraduate accounted” also needs a plural subject or an article before the category name. Practise completing each sentence with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate agreement and articles when describing groups. A wider mix of complete simple and complex sentences would make the report clearer.
