Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify both visuals and report several accurate figures, including the largest user group (full-time undergraduates, 44%), academic staff (7%), and satisfaction with opening hours and staff helpfulness. However, the overview is unclear and does not summarise the main patterns: for example, staff helpfulness has the highest very-satisfied result, while opening hours receive no dissatisfaction. The final comparison that journals and Wi-Fi have “almost same percentages” is too vague and omits their actual satisfaction patterns. The response is also four words below the 150-word minimum; the eight words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count. Add a clear overview and select a few key comparisons to develop rather than listing figures without explaining their significance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic division between the user-category information and the satisfaction results, so readers can recognise the two parts of the task. However, progression within these parts is limited: the first paragraph moves through categories without a clear overview, and the second lists satisfaction figures before ending with a vague comparison. Linking expressions such as “While,” “After,” and “On the other hand” are repeated or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. For example, “After, in availability of books…” does not establish a meaningful sequence. Organise the response into a brief introduction, an overview, and two focused detail paragraphs, using comparisons to connect related figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “categories of library users,” “very satisfied,” and “availability of books,” and the reader can generally identify the topics being discussed. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “library spend time,” “table chart,” and “in categories of library users ratio.” Repetition of “library users” and “satisfaction” also makes the description less fluent. There are spelling and form issues, including “reliabillity,” and the phrase “almost same percentages” does not specify what is similar. Use standard chart language such as “proportion,” “accounted for,” and “satisfaction with,” and name the figures being compared.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and many sentences are fragments or have faulty structure. The opening, “The pie chart and table chart illustrates show,” combines competing verb forms and has subject–verb agreement problems. Phrases such as “in academic staff categories of library users of 7%” lack a complete grammatical structure, while “in full time postgraduate library users is 25 percent” uses an incorrect sentence pattern. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also weak, particularly where a new sentence begins with “in availability of journals.” Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences, for example, “Academic staff accounted for 7% of users,” and check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
