Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The pie chart illustrates the breakdown of library user at the university by their academic status, while the table details their level of satisfaction across five different library services.
Overall, full-time students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) accounted for the vast majority of library users. Regarding satisfaction, the helpulness of the staff and library opening were mostly highly rated services, with zero satisfaction reported. In contrast, the availability of journals and reliability of wifi generated the highest level of dissatisfaction.
Looking at the user demographic, nearly half (44%) of all library users wew full-time undergraduates, making them the largest group. Full-time postgraduates represented a quarter (25%) of users. The remaining part-time postgraguates (16%), distance learning (8%), and academic staff, who were the smallest demographic at just 7%.
Turning to user satisfaction, the library staff recived overwhelmingly positive feedback, with 95% of users being very satisfied and the remaining 5% fairly satisfied. Opening hours were also heavily praised (65% very satisfied, 35% fairly satisfied). Satisfaction with books was moderate, wit 50% very satisfied and 40% fairly satisfied. However, nearly fifth of the users were not satisfied with the availability of journals (20%) and reliability of Wifi (19%), which also saw the lowest rates of high satisfaction (45% and 48% respectively).

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response covers both visuals and gives a clear overview: full-time undergraduates are the largest user group, while staff and opening hours receive strong satisfaction ratings and journals and Wi-Fi attract more dissatisfaction. The demographic figures are accurately reported, and the comparisons for staff, opening hours, books, journals and Wi-Fi are generally well selected. However, the overview says staff and opening hours were highly rated “with zero satisfaction reported,” which contradicts the data: zero users were not satisfied with these services. This appears to confuse the zero in the “not satisfied” column with overall satisfaction. The account also omits the 10% dissatisfied with books, though not every figure needs to be included. A more precise overview would avoid this contradictory phrase and distinguish clearly between satisfaction categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised in a clear sequence: an introduction identifies the two visuals, an overview highlights the main patterns, and the final two paragraphs describe user categories and satisfaction results. Transitions such as “Looking at the user demographic” and “Turning to user satisfaction” make the shift between topics easy to follow. Information is generally grouped appropriately, and comparisons are presented in a logical order. To make the progression even more effective, ensure that the overview is internally consistent before moving into the details; the phrase “with zero satisfaction reported” conflicts with the positive ratings that follow. Some linking is also formulaic, so a little more variation in how comparisons are connected would make cohesion feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of task-appropriate vocabulary, including “breakdown,” “accounted for,” “represented,” “overwhelmingly positive feedback,” and “dissatisfaction.” These choices help describe proportions and compare ratings. However, several spelling errors—“helpulness,” “wew,” “postgraguates,” “recived,” and “wit”—show inconsistent control, even though the intended meaning is usually recoverable. Some phrasing is also imprecise: “zero satisfaction reported” does not accurately describe zero users being not satisfied, and “library opening” is an incomplete label for opening hours. Use the exact service names where possible and check spelling carefully. More precise collocations, such as “received high satisfaction ratings,” would strengthen the report’s formal style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The response uses a useful mix of sentence forms, including a complex opening with “while,” a participial phrase (“making them the largest group”), and clauses introduced by “with” and “which.” Many sentences are grammatically controlled, and the meaning is generally clear. Some errors remain in sentence construction and grammatical completeness. In “The remaining part-time postgraguates (16%), distance learning (8%), and academic staff…,” the list has no main verb; for example, it could be completed with “made up the rest.” The phrase “nearly fifth of the users” also needs an article (“nearly a fifth”). These issues do not prevent understanding, but proofreading for complete clauses and articles would improve accuracy while preserving the range of structures already attempted.
