Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response identifies the main features accurately: full-time undergraduates are the largest user group at 44%, academic staff the smallest at 7%, and staff helpfulness receives the highest very-satisfied rating, while journals have the highest dissatisfaction. It also reports several relevant figures across both visuals, so the task is addressed and the overview is clear. However, the overview is not fully precise: it says the remaining users “contributed from” three groups but omits full-time postgraduates, and the claim that journal availability “made the most percentage” dissatisfied is awkwardly expressed. The detail on fairly satisfied users is limited to books, and the 5% for staff helpfulness is not reported. More precise comparisons and a complete overview would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for user categories and satisfaction results. This makes the two visuals easy to follow, and sequencing within the category paragraph is generally logical. There is some effective contrast, such as “whereas” and “while.” However, cohesion is not consistently controlled. The sentence “Distance learning, which had the lowest percentage of users at 8%” is a fragment and repeats information from the preceding sentence. The overview’s “Rest of the users” is also unclear as a reference, particularly because it leaves out full-time postgraduates. In the final paragraph, “following with” does not clearly connect the dissatisfaction figures. Clearer referencing and less repetition would make progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses enough topic vocabulary to describe both visuals, including “percentage,” “very satisfied,” “fairly satisfied,” and “availability.” It also attempts some variation through phrases such as “contributed” and “whereas.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “the activity the most percentage of users got satisfied with” and “contributed in the highest percentage” do not express the comparisons naturally. “Rest of the users” is imprecise, while “thing by which” is too informal and vague for an academic report. Spelling errors such as “acedemic,” “availiblity,” and “realiability” are noticeable. Use standard chart-reporting phrases and check spelling to improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mixture of simple and more complex structures, including a contrast clause with “whereas” and a relative clause beginning “which.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. The opening sentence has subject–verb disagreement: “The chart and table illustrates” should be “illustrate.” Singular and plural forms are also inconsistent in “full-time undergraduate had” and “the activity … users got satisfied with.” The relative-clause sentence about distance learning is incomplete, and “following with” is not a well-formed grammatical connection. These issues occur alongside some correctly formed sentences, but the range is not yet controlled consistently. Practise complete sentence structures, agreement, and accurate clause linking.
