Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also report the other user percentages correctly. However, the response covers only the pie chart and gives just a brief, general comment on satisfaction; it does not report any of the table’s figures or compare satisfaction across categories. The overview’s claim that opening hours have “no complaint” is broadly supported by the zero dissatisfied responses, but journals are not the only area with problems, and the table shows staff helpfulness is especially highly rated. The response is also 62 words below the required minimum, leaving the task substantially incomplete. Include a fuller overview and key comparisons from both visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure: an opening sentence gives an overview, followed by a paragraph describing the user categories. This makes the chart information reasonably easy to follow, and “while” and “moreover” attempt to connect ideas. However, the table is not developed, so there is no progression through all parts of the task. The second paragraph reads mainly as a list of percentages, and “moreover” does not clearly express the relationship between the two largest groups. The overview also combines several points in a compressed sentence. To improve, use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main details, group related comparisons, and use linking expressions that show contrast or ranking precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “ratio,” “user satisfaction,” “availability,” and “library users,” and the reader can generally identify the intended categories. However, the range is limited, with repeated use of “users” and basic descriptions such as “on top” and “second point.” Several spelling errors—“illuserates,” “libarary,” “undergrauate,” and “catergoury”—make the response less clear and reduce accuracy. Some phrases are also unnatural for describing data, such as “use 16% library” and “face may problems.” Build a more precise range for reporting proportions and comparisons, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “account for” or “represent” for percentages and “the lowest proportion” for rankings.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both a compound sentence and a longer sentence, for example, “The pie chart …, while the table …” and the sentence beginning “Overall.” These show some ability to connect clauses, but the range remains limited and errors are frequent. The opening lacks articles and plural forms (“ratio of the different type”), while “full time undergraduate is on top” has an unclear singular subject and awkward structure. In “Part time postgraduate students only use 16%,” the verb pattern does not accurately express the data. Punctuation is also missing between some listed figures. Practise accurate sentence frames such as “Full-time undergraduates account for 44% of users” and “The table shows that…,” then check articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries.
