Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You report the figures for all five user categories and all five satisfaction areas, and the values given match the chart and table. However, the response mainly lists data rather than selecting and highlighting the main features: it does not identify, for example, that full-time undergraduates are the largest user group or that staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction, while journals attract the highest dissatisfaction. There is also no clear overview, which is central to this task, and the opening sentence repeats the prompt rather than summarising the findings. The response is 136 words, below the required 150; 17 words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count. Add a concise overview and develop the most important comparisons to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence: it first describes the user categories and then moves to satisfaction results. This helps the reader distinguish the chart from the table, and the repeated labels make most figures traceable to their topics. However, the information is presented as a dense list, with no separate overview or clear grouping of the most important comparisons. Transitions are limited, and some sentences run together, such as the shift from “8%.Academic staff” to the final category. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and details, and connect related comparisons with phrases such as “By contrast” or “The highest proportion was”. This would create clearer progression rather than a series of figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories”, “satisfaction”, “availability” and “percentage”, so the reader can generally understand what the figures describe. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or unnatural, such as “percentage of satisfied” and “users percentage”. “Chart can elucidate information in number and percentage” is also an awkward way to introduce the data and does not add a useful summary. More precise reporting language would make the account clearer and more academic. For example, describe a group as “accounted for 44% of users” and say that “95% were very satisfied with staff helpfulness”. Check standard forms such as “Wi-Fi” and use consistent terms for satisfaction categories.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most of the response uses short, simple statements, and the reader can usually identify the figures being reported. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and frequent errors in sentence formation and punctuation make the writing less controlled. Examples include the fragment “Categories of library users full time undergraduate 44%” and the incomplete construction “library opening satisfied percentage is 65”. Missing articles and linking words also affect clarity, while several sentences are joined directly without spaces after full stops, as in “8%.Academic staff”. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Full-time undergraduates made up 44% of users.” Vary these with accurate comparison structures, and proofread punctuation.
