Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the main user group as full-time undergraduates (44%) and note that academic staff form the smallest group (7%), so some relevant data is selected. However, the response only minimally covers the task: it gives no meaningful summary of the satisfaction table and does not compare satisfaction across the five aspects. The claim that undergraduate and postgraduate students are satisfied with opening hours and staff behaviour is not supported by the table, which reports all users’ satisfaction and does not break results down by user category. The postgraduate proportions are also left vague. The response is 76 words, below the required 150, leaving the key features substantially undeveloped. Include an overview and accurate comparisons, especially the high staff satisfaction and the lower ratings for journals and wi-fi.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the visuals, gives an overall comment, then mentions user categories and satisfaction. Linking phrases such as “On the whole” and “However” help signal relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, the progression is limited because the two visuals are not clearly organised into separate, developed points, and the final sentence introduces a claim about student satisfaction without connecting it to the table’s actual data. The overview and details are also mixed together, while several ideas are compressed into short statements. A clearer structure would use an introduction, an overview of the main patterns, and a paragraph for user categories followed by one for satisfaction results, with comparisons linked explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “category,” “availability,” and “proportion,” and the reader can generally identify the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts difficult to interpret. For example, “their delight at a institute” is not a natural way to describe satisfaction, and “a big segment of library” does not clearly express the share of users. “Academic faculty” and “library’s faculty” are also imprecise for the chart’s category of academic staff and the table’s helpfulness of staff. Aim for standard report language such as “accounted for,” “respondents,” and “were satisfied with,” and use the exact labels from the visuals to avoid ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a sentence beginning “On the whole.” Meaning is sometimes recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. In “The pie chart and table shows,” the compound subject requires “show”; “five patrons category” needs a plural form and a clearer structure; and “academic faculty comprise” does not maintain consistent tense with the surrounding description. The phrase “The availability postgraduate scholars depict” lacks a grammatical connection between its subject and verb, making the intended meaning unclear. Most sentences follow simple patterns, with little accurate complex structure. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction before adding more complex clauses.
