Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover both the user categories and satisfaction results, and you identify the largest and smallest user groups. The figures for undergraduates (44%), academic staff (7%), and the satisfaction ratings are generally reported accurately. However, the overview contains a major misreading: you say users are “not satisfied with the library staff,” whereas 95% are very satisfied with staff helpfulness and none are dissatisfied. The overview also calls opening hours highly satisfying without clearly comparing this with the even stronger staff rating. Some details are compressed or unclear, such as “other course members” for distance learners. Select the main contrasts accurately and make the overall summary reflect the strongest and weakest satisfaction results.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by one paragraph on user categories and another on satisfaction. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and transitions such as “To begin with” and “Following this” signal movement between sections. However, some linking is mechanical, and the sequence within the final paragraph becomes difficult to follow because several ratings are joined together without clear sentence boundaries. The overview also places the staff dissatisfaction claim beside the opening-hours point without explaining the contrast. Use clearer topic sentences and separate the satisfaction categories into manageable comparisons, grouping the strongest results and the less positive results.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “availability,” “fairly satisfied,” and “not satisfied,” so the reader can understand the general subject. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “moderate access” and “below average.” However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for describing survey data: “high interest of access,” “most highest access,” and “suddenly not satisfied” do not convey the intended comparisons precisely. Spelling errors such as “libaray,” “slighlty,” “satisfication,” and “availabiltiy” also reduce control. Aim for precise reporting verbs and collocations, such as “accounted for,” “rated,” and “the proportion of users,” rather than describing library use as interest or access.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response is usually understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in subject–verb agreement and sentence construction. For example, “The chart and table illustrates” should use a plural verb, while “full-time undergraduate users has shown” also has a mismatch. Several sentences lack clear boundaries or punctuation, including “library.Library opening hours” and the run-on sequence beginning “Staff of the library highly satisfied.” Articles and comparison structures are also often missing or faulty. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Library staff received the highest satisfaction rating,” and use full stops to separate distinct comparisons. More reliable control of these patterns would make your range clearer.
