Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates make up 44%, followed by full-time postgraduates at 25%. You also give a useful overview that staff and distance learners are the smallest groups combined, and that staff helpfulness and opening hours receive the strongest satisfaction ratings. However, the satisfaction summary is incomplete and partly unclear: “least satisfied” factors are named, but the figures and distinctions are not reported, and “reliability of journals” misidentifies the chart’s wi-fi category. The table shows journals have the lowest very-satisfied share (45%) and highest dissatisfaction (20%), while wi-fi dissatisfaction is 19%. Include these key comparisons and clarify that books, journals and wi-fi—not journals alone—have some dissatisfaction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a final paragraph on satisfaction. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the two visuals, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “followed by” and “Regarding” help signal relationships. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. The final paragraph shifts abruptly from the strongest ratings to “on the contrary,” and the phrase “other categories like library opening” does not clearly identify what is being compared. The overview also repeats information developed immediately afterwards. Group the satisfaction figures into clear comparisons and use precise references to each aspect so the progression is easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “accounted for,” “users,” and “satisfied,” and you attempt to vary expressions with phrases such as “made up” and “consisting of.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “satisfactory percentage,” “sump up,” “most satisfied thing,” and “made 95% users pleased.” There are also spelling errors in “helpfullness” and “abive,” and “reliability of journals” confuses the category with wi-fi reliability. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. Aim for standard chart language such as “share of users,” “satisfaction rating,” and “the proportion who were very satisfied,” and check spelling and category labels carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “Full time undergraduates are the highest number of users … followed by…” and “Academic staff and distance learners made the least percentage as both combined for 15%.” The main comparisons are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. In “part time postgraduates was only accounted for 16%,” the plural subject does not agree with “was,” and the passive construction is not formed naturally. “The helpfulness of the staff made 95% users pleased” also lacks the article and preposition needed for a clear structure. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, particularly after full stops. Use complete, controlled clauses—for example, “Part-time postgraduates accounted for 16%”—and proofread agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
