Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart illustrates the categories of library users surveyed at a university while table demonstrates their satisfaction level with the facilities provided.
Overall, majority of users are full-time graduates and undergraduates with high satisfaction level of staff helpfulness and opening hours of library. There is a small number of academic staff users and less low number of journals availability.
Over two-thirds of users are full-time with undergraduates at 44%. There are also significant number of postgraduate students at third place with 16%. While distance learning and academic staff accounts for 15% altogether with academic staff at 7%.
Furthermore, there is increase level of satisfaction with staff helpfulness and opening hours with 95 and 65 respectively. The availability of books seems to have neutral comments with more satisfaction at 50 and fair staisfaction at 40 also 10 unsatisfied users. The surge in unsatisfaction is for availability of journals and wi-fi services with 20 and 19 not satisfied users respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify both parts of the visual and give a broad overview, noting the dominance of full-time students and strong satisfaction with staff helpfulness and opening hours. Several figures are reported accurately, including 44% for undergraduates, 95% for staff helpfulness and the dissatisfaction figures for journals and Wi-Fi. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: postgraduate users are not all at 16%—full-time postgraduates account for 25%, while part-time postgraduates are 16%—and the statement that there is a “less low number” of journal availability does not describe the satisfaction data clearly. The overview could also capture the contrast between high satisfaction with staff and opening hours and more mixed views of books, journals and Wi-Fi. More precise reporting of these comparisons would strengthen coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a final paragraph on satisfaction. This makes the two sets of information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “While” help signal relationships. The progression is generally logical, supporting this level of performance. However, some links are awkward or leave the relationship between ideas unclear, particularly “There are also significant number of postgraduate students at third place with 16%” and the sentence beginning “While distance learning…”. The final paragraph also groups several satisfaction results together without a fully consistent comparison. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each figure directly to the relevant category or satisfaction level to make the progression more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing the chart and table, including “categories,” “satisfaction level,” “availability,” “accounts for” and “unsatisfied.” These choices communicate the main subject matter, and you attempt more specific language such as “surge in unsatisfaction.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however. “Less low number” is unclear, “significant number” needs a more suitable construction, and “neutral comments” does not accurately describe the mixed satisfaction percentages. “Surge in unsatisfaction” is also too strong for the figures and is not a natural expression in this context. There is a spelling error in “staisfaction.” Aim for precise, neutral chart language, such as “the highest proportion of dissatisfied users” or “views were more mixed.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “while” and sentences that combine several figures. The main meaning is usually recoverable, and the response is organised into complete sentences. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “while table demonstrates” needs an article, and “There are also significant number” has a number-agreement problem. “Over two-thirds of users are full-time with undergraduates at 44%” is structurally unclear, while “There is increase level of satisfaction” is missing grammatical elements. The sentence beginning “While distance learning…” is also a fragment because the dependent clause is not completed. Check articles and singular/plural agreement, and make sure each sentence has a clear main clause when using subordinate conjunctions.
