Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the largest user group correctly as full-time undergraduates (44%) and note that academic staff form the smallest group (7%). You also attempt to cover both the user categories and satisfaction table, so the response addresses the main parts of the task. However, several figures are misreported: distance learners are 8%, not 1% more than academic staff, and part-time postgraduates (16%) are twice—not “doubled” in a clear comparison—distance learners. The table discussion is selective and confusing: 40% is the fairly satisfied figure for books, while the highest “not satisfied” result is 20% for journals. A clearer overview of the main satisfaction pattern, followed by accurate comparisons, would make the report more complete and reliable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an opening, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a final paragraph about satisfaction. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is divided. However, progression within paragraphs is weak, and several comparisons are difficult to follow, particularly the final sentence, which moves between fairly satisfied and not satisfied figures without clearly identifying each category. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” are used, but the latter does not express a clear contrast between the two chart sections. Organise the table information in a consistent order and use explicit references—for example, “For opening hours…”—to make relationships between figures clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportions,” “satisfied,” “availability” and “reliability,” and you attempt comparisons such as “the most” and “the lowest.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “the most user of library,” “very lowest verys satisfied” and “the tallest is 20” are not natural ways to describe survey results. Spelling errors, including “helpfilness” and “avability,” also reduce clarity. Practise standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “the highest dissatisfaction rate,” while checking spelling and using the same satisfaction labels as the table.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. The opening, “The chart and table illustrates,” has a subject–verb agreement error, and several sentences lack clear grammatical connections, as in “the academic staff is very little user.” The long final sentence joins multiple comparisons with commas, making the relationships between clauses difficult to understand. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also unreliable, and the response shows little accurate use of varied sentence patterns. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then practise combining them with accurate conjunctions. For example: “Staff helpfulness received the highest satisfaction rating, at 95%. No respondents were dissatisfied with staff or opening hours.”
