Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff make up 7%. You also report several satisfaction figures accurately, including the 10%, 20% and 19% who were dissatisfied with books, journals and Wi-Fi. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not summarise the strongest satisfaction result (staff helpfulness, at 95% very satisfied) or compare the satisfaction categories clearly. The user-group figures for full-time and part-time postgraduates and distance learners are omitted, and the statement that “no one was unsatisfied” is unclear because it applies to opening hours and staff helpfulness, not all sectors. Select the main contrasts and report them explicitly to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and the table information is grouped together rather than listed entirely at random. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph combines user-group data with satisfaction results, so the relationship between the two visuals is not always clear. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “The table below shows” help signal the sections, but several ideas are joined in a long sentence, and “these sectors” has an unclear reference. The ending is also cut off at “lib,” which interrupts the flow. Use separate paragraphs for the chart and table, group related comparisons, and ensure each reference and sentence is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “satisfaction level,” “availability of books,” and “opening hours,” so the reader can generally identify the topics being described. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward: “number people using library,” “indulged in full-time undergraduate degrees,” and “used library at regular basis” do not express the data naturally. “Population” is also unsuitable for describing the proportions of library users, and “sectors” is vague when referring to services. There are spelling errors, including “relaiabiltiy,” and the final word is incomplete. Aim for precise chart language such as “accounted for,” “users,” and “very satisfied,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “The table below shows” and a longer sentence comparing dissatisfaction figures. However, control is inconsistent, and several grammatical errors make the meaning less clear. For example, “the majority population … are the students” has problems with article use and agreement, while “the number of students with 44% of population was” uses an unsuitable sentence structure and article pattern. In “Many people were very satisfied … and … no one was unsatisfied,” the comparison is not expressed precisely. Some sentences also lack clear grammatical links between clauses. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a complete structure.
