Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also give an overview that users are generally satisfied. However, the response covers only the pie chart in detail and does not report any figures or comparisons from the satisfaction table, so a major part of the task is missing. The overview that satisfaction is high is relevant, but it is not supported with the table’s strongest findings, such as 95% being very satisfied with staff helpfulness and no dissatisfaction with opening hours. The response is 99 words, below the 150-word minimum; this limits the detail and development needed to summarise both visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic structure: an opening identifies the two visuals, an overview follows, and the final paragraph describes user categories. This gives the reader some organisation, and the figures for the smaller groups are presented together. However, progression is limited because the table is introduced but then not discussed, and the response ends without a concluding comparison or fuller account of the data. Linking words such as “While,” “On the other hand,” and “Overall” are attempted, but several are awkwardly placed or punctuated, and “while” begins a fragment-like sentence. Group the response into a clear overview and separate detail paragraphs for the pie chart and table, using links to show comparisons rather than relying on repeated sentence openings.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “category,” “survey,” and “satisfied,” so the basic meaning is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several choices are unnatural or imprecise: “dominating” and “leading in library percentage” do not describe chart proportions naturally, while “making their portion” is an awkward collocation. “The most less cotributing users” is difficult to interpret and contains a spelling error. Use standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “represented,” and “the smallest proportion.” Also distinguish “satisfaction” from “satisfied” when describing the table. More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate for an academic summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using “while” and “on the other hand,” but the response relies mainly on short, simple statements, and some attempts at complex sentences are faulty. For example, “While the table gives us the result…” is not a complete sentence when used after the opening, and “Full-time undergraduate are leading” has a subject–verb agreement error. Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops, and capitalisation is inconsistent, as in “while” after a full stop. Articles and plural forms also need attention, for example “the category of full-time undergraduate” and “full-time undergraduate are.” Practise complete sentence structures and check agreement, punctuation, and sentence boundaries before submitting.
