Student answer (Band 5.5)

the provided pie chart and table illustrate the percentages of library members at a specific university in a survey for five categories and five services.

generally, it can be observed that most of users are a full-time undergraduate and the lowest ones are distence learning and academic staff. by the table side, most of the services were satisfactory, while the availability of journals was the highest dissatisfaction.

firs and foremost, the vast majority of users are full-time undergraduate and postgraduate users roughly 44% and quarter of the whole proportion. distance learning and academic staff recorded 8% and 7% respectively which are the lowest. part-time postgraduate shows just 16% of users.

on the other hand, attenders of the library conduct that they are quite satisfied about library opening hours and helpfullness of staff. however, availability of journals and the wi-fi reliability show the highest proportions of dissatistaction. books availability service was approximately good and recorded an equal proportion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while distance learners and academic staff are the smallest groups at 8% and 7%. You also note the broad satisfaction pattern and correctly single out journals as having the greatest dissatisfaction. However, some key comparisons are underdeveloped or imprecise. For example, “most of the services were satisfactory” does not distinguish the very high ratings for staff helpfulness (95%) and opening hours (65%) from the more mixed results for books and wi-fi. The statement that books were “approximately good” and had “an equal proportion” is unclear and does not report the 50% very satisfied, 40% fairly satisfied, and 10% not satisfied split. Develop these comparisons more explicitly to make the summary more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the user categories and satisfaction results. This gives the reader a coherent route through the two visuals. Linking phrases such as “generally” and “on the other hand” help signal shifts, although some connections feel mechanical or do not accurately express the relationship between ideas. For instance, “on the other hand” introduces the table rather than a direct contrast, and “by the table side” is an awkward transition. The final paragraph also groups several services together without a clear sequence of comparisons. Use more precise transitions and organise the satisfaction data from strongest ratings to the more mixed results, with clear references to each service.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentages,” “categories,” “proportion,” and “dissatisfaction,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range and control are limited by repeated or unnatural expressions such as “users,” “services,” “most of users,” and “approximately good.” Several spelling errors—“distence,” “firs,” “helpfullness,” and “dissatistaction”—also make the writing less polished. Some word combinations are not idiomatic, including “by the table side” and “attenders of the library conduct that.” Aim for accurate collocations and a wider set of terms such as “respondents,” “ratings,” and “reported satisfaction.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural phrases will improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a sentence beginning “however.” The main message is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “most of users are a full-time undergraduate” has problems with the article, plural agreement, and sentence structure; “the lowest ones are” is also an unclear construction. In “full-time undergraduate and postgraduate users roughly 44% and quarter,” the sentence lacks a clear verb and needs a more complete structure. There are also issues with articles and agreement in “the vast majority of users are full-time undergraduate.” Practise building complete comparison sentences, checking singular and plural forms, and using articles consistently.
