Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both visuals and give a clear overview: undergraduates form the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and satisfaction is strongest for staff helpfulness while journal availability attracts the most dissatisfaction. The figures you report are accurate, and you include useful comparisons across the satisfaction categories. This meets the task well, with some features more fully developed than others: the overview could also identify that no respondents were dissatisfied with opening hours or staff helpfulness, and that books and Wi-Fi received intermediate results. The phrase “most users were very satisfied” is a little broad because this is true for each service, but the proportions vary considerably. A more selective overview of these contrasts would make the key features more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by one paragraph on user categories and one on satisfaction. This makes the two visuals easy to distinguish, and sequencing the table figures by service is sensible. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however, particularly in the long final paragraph, where repeated “while,” “but,” “however,” and “finally” link a series of figures without clearly grouping the strongest and weakest results. Some transitions also imply contrast where simple addition would be clearer. To improve progression, divide the table discussion into two shorter groups and use more precise links, such as “By contrast” for journals versus staff helpfulness and “Similarly” for the two services with no dissatisfaction.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “categories,” “proportion,” “satisfied,” and “reliability,” and the meaning remains clear throughout. There are attempts at varied description, but some choices are imprecise or unnatural for reporting data. For example, “a small figure of users” and “a typical rate of users” do not describe the proportions naturally, while “highest rate” is less suitable than language referring to a share or percentage. Repetition of “users” and “satisfied” also limits flexibility, especially in the table paragraph. Use concise, conventional chart language and vary the nouns where appropriate, such as “respondents,” “share,” and “proportion.” This would make the account more precise without requiring more complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including clauses joined with “although” and “while,” and the main comparisons are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with number agreement and sentence boundaries. For instance, “44% of library users were full-time undergraduate” needs a plural noun (“undergraduates”), and “A small figure of users were” has a mismatch between the singular subject and plural verb. The final paragraph also contains several long sentences joined by commas, making punctuation and clause relationships less controlled. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and plural forms, and separate each service comparison into a complete sentence. These changes would improve accuracy while preserving the range of structures you already attempt.
