Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the largest group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, followed by full-time postgraduates at 25%, and it begins to report other categories. However, it stops partway through the description of distance learners and does not mention academic staff (7%). More importantly, the satisfaction table is not summarised at all, so the response covers only one part of the task and gives no overview of the main satisfaction patterns, such as staff helpfulness receiving the strongest ratings. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the key features undeveloped. To improve, complete both chart and table summaries, select the most notable comparisons, and include a concise overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to order the user categories by size, using phrases such as “In the second place” and “In the penultimate place.” This gives the opening some local progression. However, the response ends mid-sentence (“distance learning which”), and there is no paragraphing or transition to the satisfaction data, so the overall organisation is incomplete. Some linking is also awkward: “While” introduces a fragment rather than a complete contrast. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and focused details for the two visuals. Use clear links between the largest and smaller user groups, then signal the shift to satisfaction results.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “categories,” “full-time undergraduates,” and “satisfaction level,” and the reader can understand the main figures being reported. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “library visitors with different times” and “the complete proportion holds distance learning.” “Contains 44$” also uses the wrong symbol for a percentage and weakens clarity. The range is limited, with repeated reliance on “place” and “holds.” Aim for accurate chart language and natural collocations, for example, “accounted for,” “represented,” and “the smallest group.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and a more complex construction, but control is uneven. In “The pie chart and table illustrates,” the plural subject requires “illustrate.” The clause “In the second place who mostly visits library are full-time postgraduates holds 25%” has an unclear structure and mismatched subject and verb; a clearer version would be “Full-time postgraduates were the second-largest group, at 25%.” “While part-time graduates are in the third position contain 16%” is also not a complete, well-formed sentence. The final sentence is unfinished. Practise complete comparisons with accurate agreement, articles, and punctuation, and check that every sentence has a clear subject and main verb.
