Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important features, including the largest user group, the smallest group, and high satisfaction with staff helpfulness. However, the overview contains a key misreading: the 44% group is full-time undergraduates, not graduates. The next-largest group is full-time postgraduates at 25%, so the description of these categories is confusing. Your account of satisfaction also omits the 48% very satisfied with Wi-Fi and misreports dissatisfaction: 20% were dissatisfied with journals, while 19% were dissatisfied with Wi-Fi, not 10%. The response covers both visuals, but some comparisons are incomplete and the overview is not consistently accurate. Check category labels carefully and select the most notable contrasts across both visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing the chart and table. This helps the reader follow the two sources of information. Linking expressions such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” and “On the other side” signal movement between points, although some are mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. Within the table paragraph, figures are listed in a long sequence, and the shift from very satisfied to fairly satisfied and then dissatisfied could be signposted more clearly. Some references, such as “the lowest users,” are also unclear. Grouping related figures and using clearer comparisons would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “survey,” “library users,” “very satisfied,” and “fairly satisfied,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled forms make the writing less clear, such as “helpfullness,” “satiesfied,” “avibility,” and “realibility.” Some expressions are also unnatural, including “the lowest users” and “35% of fairly satisfaction.” Use precise terms for groups and satisfaction levels, and check spelling carefully. For example, “the smallest user group” is clearer than “the lowest users,” while “35% were fairly satisfied” is more natural than “35% of fairly satisfaction.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons introduced by “On the other hand” and clauses beginning with “who.” However, errors in sentence structure and agreement occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “both chart and table shows” needs a plural subject and verb, while “The outcomes … is demonstrated” has a mismatch between the plural subject and verb. Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic in “a library users” and “Moreover, the table represents the users are very satisfied.” Capitalisation after full stops and punctuation around clauses are inconsistent. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build comparisons in complete, clearly punctuated sentences.
