Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The chart and the table illustrates the results of a survey of library users at a university.
Overall, in the pie chart there is a lot of difference in number of people using the library. The most users are full time undergraduates, then It is full time postgraduates and other users are even less.
The user satisfaction table shows different ratings in all sections where satisfaction rate of helpfulness of staff is the highest, and availability of journals is the lowest.
It's obvious that in the pie chart there is a huge gap in number of users of the library. The highest number of users are the full time undergraduates at 44%, then it is full time postgraduates at 25%.
Decreasing to 16% are the part time postgraduates and 8% of distance learning and the lowest are the academic staff at 7%. Almost half percentage of users are the full time undergraduates.
The table of library user satisfaction shows that 65% is very satisfied of library opening hours and 35% fairly satisfied and 0 not satisfied. 95% very satisfied and 5% fairly and none at not satisfied for helpfulness of staff. For the availability of books 50% were satisfied, 40% fairly and 10% were not.
The availability of journals had 45% satisfied, 35% fairly and 20% not satisfied. The reliability of wifi had 48% at very satisfied, 33% fairly and 19% not satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both visuals and give a clear overview: undergraduates form the largest user group, while staff satisfaction is highest and journal satisfaction lowest. The figures reported for the user categories and satisfaction ratings are accurate, and the response selects relevant comparisons rather than listing unrelated details. This meets the task well. Some points, however, are less fully developed: “other users are even less” is vague, and the overview could identify the contrast between the high satisfaction with staff and the more mixed ratings for books, journals and wi-fi. Also, “satisfaction rate of ... availability of journals is the lowest” is imprecise because the table separates very, fairly and not satisfied ratings. A more precise overview of these patterns would strengthen the report further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to the user categories and then the satisfaction table. This makes the main information accessible. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the overview’s “huge gap” and the later “huge gap in number of users” repeat the same point, while the category figures are also summarised twice. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “then” and the sequence of short table statements. The final paragraph would be easier to follow if the ratings were grouped into a clear comparison, rather than presented as a series of similar sentences. Use paragraphing to separate the two visuals, but avoid restating the same overview point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “full-time undergraduates,” “distance learning,” “very satisfied” and “reliability of wi-fi,” so the reader can understand the categories and ratings. The range is nevertheless limited and several phrases are imprecise or repetitive. “A lot of difference in number of people” and “huge gap in number of users” are awkward ways to describe the distribution, while “other users are even less” is vague. “Almost half percentage” is also an unnatural expression; the intended meaning is that undergraduates account for nearly half of users. Aim for concise, accurate collocations such as “accounted for,” “the smallest group” and “the lowest proportion.” Check spelling and consistent forms, including “wi-fi” and “full-time.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and some longer structures, and most figures remain understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction recur. The opening says “The chart and the table illustrates,” where the plural subject requires “illustrate.” In the overview, “then It is full time postgraduates” has an unclear pronoun and awkward clause structure. Several table descriptions omit necessary grammatical elements, as in “95% very satisfied and 5% fairly,” and “65% is very satisfied of library opening hours.” Use complete parallel clauses, for example, “95% were very satisfied, while 5% were fairly satisfied.” More accurate sentence patterns and punctuation would make the report smoother and more controlled.
