Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, followed by full-time postgraduates at 25%, and your overview notes that satisfaction is generally high. You also include figures for all five user categories and several satisfaction measures. However, some key comparisons are incomplete or imprecise. For example, “more students are very satisfied” with journals and wi-fi does not clearly report that the very-satisfied figures are 45% and 48%, and “few are not satisfied” obscures the contrast between 20% for journals and 19% for wi-fi. The overview could also highlight that staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction rating, while opening hours have no dissatisfied users. Select and compare the most notable results more explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs beginning with “Firstly” and “lastly.” This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the first detail paragraph combines user categories with satisfaction figures, and “lastly” introduces category data before moving back to satisfaction. Linking words such as “However,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” are used, but some do not express a clear relationship between the figures. Group the user-category data together, then organise satisfaction results by notable highs and comparisons. Clearer paragraph focus and more precise referencing would make the report easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “percentage,” “very satisfied,” and “availability,” so the main subject is generally understandable. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “high proportion” and “facilities.” However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “use library,” “satisfied by helpfulness,” and “library users half,” which can make the intended meaning less clear. “Students” is also too narrow when describing all library users, since the survey includes academic staff and distance learners. Aim for accurate collocations and consistent terms such as “respondents” or “users.” More precise vocabulary for describing proportions and comparisons would strengthen the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “While” and a sentence beginning “Furthermore.” However, control is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “The chart and table illustrate the results of a survey of library at a university” is missing a determiner and a noun complement, while “Overall, in chart full-time under graduated students use library” has problems with articles and sentence construction. There are also punctuation and spacing issues, such as “25%.However,” and the fragment-like opening “While in table…”. Practise complete sentences with accurate articles, plurals, and clause connections, then proofread punctuation.
