Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The pie chart illustrates the results of a survey of five categories of library users and the units is measured in percentage. However, the table describes the satisfaction in five different sector of library users in percentage. It is evident that the maximum usage of library was done by full-time undergraduate and the percentage of very satisfied were at the highest in all sectors.
The pie chart shows the full-time postgraduate students were using 25% of library and half of their percentage were used by part-time postgraduate students. Almost equal percentage and least usage of library was done by distance learning and academic staff which was 8% and 7% respectively. However, full-time undergraduates students used 44% library , they were at the highest in using library as compard to other categories.
The table chart explains the library users satisfation in library opening hours which was 65% very satisfied and remaining fairly satisfies. Helpfullnes of staff was 95% very satisfied and 5% fairly satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for the largest share at 44%, while academic staff are the smallest at 7%. You also note that very satisfied responses are generally prominent. However, the report covers the table only briefly and omits three of its five categories: books, journals and Wi-Fi. This leaves important comparisons unreported, including the lower satisfaction with journals and the fact that no users were dissatisfied with opening hours or staff helpfulness. The overview is also imprecise: “the highest in all sectors” does not clearly distinguish the different satisfaction results. To make the summary more complete, select the strongest contrasts across both visuals and report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a paragraph about user categories and one about satisfaction. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops after two satisfaction categories, leaving the table’s remaining results unintegrated. Some linking is repetitive or awkward, particularly the repeated use of “However,” and the opening sentence’s contrast between the chart and table does not express a meaningful contrast. Group related figures more clearly—for example, compare the two postgraduate groups, then summarise the satisfaction categories with the highest and lowest results. Clearer paragraph development and more purposeful linking would make the report easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “percentage,” “satisfaction,” and “very satisfied,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “maximum usage of library,” “the units is measured,” and “the table chart explains.” “Satisfaction” is also misspelled as “satisfation,” and “helpfullnes” contains a spelling error. These issues make parts of the report less natural and occasionally less precise. Use standard chart-reporting expressions such as “accounted for,” “share,” and “the proportion who were satisfied,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, such as the opening sentence beginning “The pie chart illustrates…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as more complex ones. For example, “the units is measured” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the percentage of very satisfied were” does not maintain agreement between the subject and verb. The phrase “full-time undergraduates students” also has an incorrect plural form, and punctuation and spacing are uneven. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they reduce accuracy. Practise checking agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and aim to produce more consistently accurate sentences.
