Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff make up only 7%. You also report several satisfaction figures correctly, including the high rating for staff helpfulness and the results for opening hours, books and journals. The overview gives useful broad comparisons, especially the contrast between staff helpfulness and journal availability. However, some details are unclear or incomplete: “full-time undergraduate are 25%” mislabels the 25% group, which is full-time postgraduate, and the 8% distance-learning category is omitted. Reliability of wi-fi is also not reported, despite its mixed satisfaction results. Covering these features accurately and distinguishing all user categories would make the summary more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall shape: an opening summary is followed by a paragraph on user categories and one on satisfaction results. Information is generally presented in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In addition” help signal progression. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation. However, the satisfaction paragraph becomes a long sequence of figures joined by “and” and “while,” so comparisons between the categories are not always easy to follow. The overview also repeats points that are then stated again in the body. To strengthen progression, group related results into shorter sentences and use clearer contrasts, for example separating the highest ratings from the less positive results.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “satisfied,” “availability” and “helpfulness,” and the meaning is generally clear. Some phrasing also attempts to summarise the data rather than simply list it, as in “Higher proportion” and “least number.” However, several expressions are imprecise or repetitive: “library users” and “library members” are alternated without a clear reason, and “least number of users are satisfied with availability of journals” does not accurately describe the table, which reports satisfaction levels. “Huge number” is also too informal and does not fit percentage data well. Choose precise terms such as “largest share,” “lowest very-satisfied rating” and “respondents,” and vary repeated wording carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “whereas,” “while” and “however,” and the main information remains understandable. Some sentences are grammatically controlled, such as “95% of library members are very satisfied with helpfulness of staff and 5% are fairly satisfied.” However, errors in agreement and sentence construction recur: “Higher proportion … are” needs an article and singular agreement, while “academic staff uses” does not agree with the plural meaning. The sentence beginning “To begin with” also incorrectly assigns 25% to “full-time undergraduate,” creating a grammatical and factual clarity problem. Punctuation around “whereas,” “while” and “however” is sometimes faulty. Check subject–verb agreement and divide long linked sentences into clearer units.
